Reserve To Top 5

Recommended Posts

I only disagree with the part that says Poole have been hit harder than most by the rule!!

2 of the best 5 reserves in the league ride at Poole.

When one moves up they have either the Australian champ or Bjarne Pedersen dropping down.

I agree it needs looking at but Poole are hardly the worst hit are they!!

No we are not but Matt Ford is asking for change so that is fairer to all edr riders.

Don't critisize Matt Ford for asking fir the change all fans want to see. Lets see it implemented for theB fixtures to givean even playing field.

Poole probably are the worst hit by the rule, if one of their top 5 goes to reserve it dents them in other heats more than most due to the chasm in ability between top 5 and reserves and they also have lost a little due to the balancing of reserve heats, something that had been their strength the last few years.

A change back to the old format of last season would work in their favour IMO.

That wouldn't even things up as some teams have already ridden B fixtures.

So I hope it's looked at at the end of the season is it should be.

Otherwise it will help some more than others and that is not fair at all.

I think people overstate the impact, you can't just look at what the reserve scored but what the edr in the top 5 scored as well, and then compare to what you would expect them to have scored if riding positions were reversed.

To me the current system favors sides with weak reserves, sides like Poole probably benefit the least (and hence would benefit most from edr having to stay at reserve).

End of the day the issue is that once they decided edr could be promoted (and I think that is a good thing), they should have gone back to a conventional format.

Wasn't Chapman at the agm?

Yes, and your point is?

Unless the reserve in question is good enough to hold their own ???!!:P

Starke, like Ellis is a Tier 2 EDR which points to why the rule should only apply to Tier 1 EDRs as was originally proposed. :D

Not everyone fiddled the EDR system to make sure they had EDR riders who could hold their own in the top 5.

As ever, if it's okay for Poole it's got to be okay for everyone else. What price Holder in a reserve berth in time for the play-offs?

It was ridiculous that converted Pl averages were used, and yes Poole benefitted.

But Poole Imo gain less from having a holder or Pedersen at reserve than a team with weak reserves benefits. It's questionable Imo whether holder atcreserve strengthenso Poole compared to Newman being in that position.

Either way, by the time we get to the playoffs I think most riders will gave had time in each slot and averages should actually bear some reflection of ability.

Was he asleep?

Still not getting your point?!?

He's 1 man from 8 promoters plus the existing chairman.

The rules for 2016 were put in place at the AGM & voted on by all promoters & ruling body. There was, later, a fresh vote & a new Chairman(Chapman) & Vice-Chairman(Godfrey) & different Committee Members voted in. It was said & put in print(Speedway Star) that they could not change anything until the next EGM or AGM so we were stuck with the 2016 Rules & Reg's

What benefit would Poole get from Holder being in reserve?

Surely they would be stronger if was riding as a heatleader and beating heatleaders, while having Newman and Ellis at reserve capable of beating other reserves.

So why didn't they have an EGM in say January e.g. to rectify/amend as it clear by then it was going to be a problem. After all they quickly changed the system for wilko to join the stars, robbo not to be able to guest and last week the ht 15 and 15 metre rule were changed. Anything is possible.

Exactly.. Ford is being very clever, he knows most folks haven't grasped the system and is looking to gain support to revert to a system he knows darn well would favour his team immensely.

And the thing is, at least 50% of people on here are moaning that Poole get an advantage under the current system. It's no wonder Poole do well, Ford is one of the few (only?) promoters to understand the impact of different rules.

Chapman is the no nonsense straight talking outspoken kind of guy who will sort out this mess that is UK speedway.

Its blokes like him we needed in the boardroom when all these stupid rules were being voted through. A no nonsense straight talking outspoken kind of guy would have told them where to go.
