Stars Of Tomorrow Plus British 125cc Final - Berwick 16/7/16

Recommended Posts

With no PL match available, Berwick have announced a nice little midsummer treat for followers on July 16th. It will cost £10, kids free and present 27 races. 37p per race! Start time 6.45pm (125cc races will start the show).

It will be "The Stars of Tomorrow, powered by Minibike Champs" -- the branded sponsor being the highly-successful Minibike group, owned by Jamie Courtney, a former Bandit and brother of Bandits' team manager.

The main event has a fairly-matched line-up of Danny Ayres, Dan Bewley, Liam Carr, Jye Etheridge, Luke Ruddick, Shelby Rutherford, Kevin Whelan, Lee Payne, Mitch Davey, Rob Shuttleworth, Connor Coles, Ryan McDonald, Ryan Burton, Stefan Farnaby, Chris Widman and Joe Lawlor.

Meanwhile the GB youth set-up has nominated Luke Harrison, the Thompson twins, the two McGurks, Jordan Palin, Mickie Simpson and Corbin Pavitt to contest the 125cc title. Neil Vatcher has thanked Berwick for agreeing to host the event, and the BSPA for their support.

Facebook is reporting that former World Chmpion Gary Havelock will be in attendance on Saturday as Guest of Honour.

Gary actually raced in the 1985 Stars of Tomorrow -- finishing third!

Great to see one of our very few World Champions turning out to support the young guns.

Actually, it was 1984 (Behind Jacko Irving and Scott Lamb) that Gary Havelock was 3rd, but that's great news.

Gives the event a bit of class!

Parade at 6.30, first 125cc races from 6.45 and a party planned in the Black and Gold afterwards, with music, auctions and party surprises.

Weather looks OK, no speedway last week or next week, place will be buzzing!

Chuffed to see this meeting back in the calendar, the more track time given to the young riders, the better they will become. Hopefully this will be well supported to back the decision to run the meeting. Quite important as well to keep the regular Saturday night meetings, with breaks for the GP, Fours and World Cup this month. I really enjoyed the Under 19 Championship last season, the standard of riders was higher than I thought. Hopefully this will match it.

Once again the promotion trying to be proactive, which can only be a good thing.

Lee Payne has withdrawn from field, there are efforts to trial a mystery new Danish lad in the meeting.

Might he be the new Bandit?

That will be Tobias Thomsen then, a young Dane who was at both Ipswich and Peterborough practising, will be good to see how he goes

Hopefully a few will turn out to support this meeting, good weather forecast and plenty races for the admission. Credit to the club for putting on this meeting, especially with a baron July. Its easy for people to find alternative things to do on a Saturday night.

Really enjoyed the meeting, the standard of racing tonight is streets ahead of these type of meetings in previous years. The semi and final Tight racing between the likes of Liam Carr, Danny Ayres, Dan Bewley, Jy Etheridge and Tobias Thomsen, who doesn't half attack the first bend with his style of riding. Also impressed with Connor Coles and Rob Shuttleworth. The latter's third to first ride in his last race was fantastic. Hopefully this will become an annual event now.
