NJC71 388 Posted August 21, 2016 (edited) The 3 point rule introduced this year is just another in the long line of stupid rule changes that has done nothing to enhance the sport. All we have are a number of 3 point riders who are clearly not ready for PL racing struggling desperately for points with their clubs having no alternative options and the other end of the scale with a rider like Dan Bewley who is clearly way better than a genuine 3 pointer having his average protected all year, leading to situations like today where his allowed to replace a rider he is far better than leading to a joke of a result. Had Somerset had their 1-7 on track or only been allowed to replace missing riders with riders of a similar ability, then Glasgow win comfortably. And of course this system opens up abuse of the system with teams turning up with 'missing' riders so they can use it to their favour. The old system of riders getting a true average after x number of home and away matches which is then updated every month worked fine and stopped crazy situations like today happening as Somerset would only have been able to use a genuine 3 pointer to replace ZW. At the end of the day if riders are good enough they will progress. A sensible solution would be that every team must have two British riders at 6 & 7 regardless of average. Whose to say this won't happen again in the play-offs? Then we get potential Champions just because they had a ringer in their team on the right night. Two points: *** Isn't this exactly what Glasgow did when they won at Rye House *** Bewley's real average is below three. It is only in the last month that he's started scoring heavily in the PL and these scores have yet to feed through to his average.
damosuzuki 696 Posted August 21, 2016 I won't stop believing we can win the title. There's everything to play for atm and a very important cup tie on Friday which needs to be approached with plenty respect given edinburgh have a no7 who is scoring for fun at every track he rides. ROLL ON FRIDAY
Fromafar 10,361 Posted August 21, 2016 2 words Dan Bewley .His pass of Garcia and his 1st bend move in heat 14 were worth the admission money alone.Superb bike control for 4 laps every race even under pressure fron Tigers Heat leaders.Tigers beat themselves with the tractor tyre packing after Ht 10. Put the track back in Rebels favour IMO .Farcical the number of laps he done. plf 1 Posted August 21, 2016 The track staff are just that. They do what they are asked.
Shadders 4,134 Posted August 22, 2016 (edited) When Dan Bewley came to Rye with the Monarchs in May he was terrible, didn't score a point from 3 rides . 12 weeks later he pitches up as Glasgow guest and was sensational. Something clicked in those 3 months. Looked a different rider. He has some future that lad. Edited August 22, 2016 by Shads
idh 209 Posted August 22, 2016 Just read the glasgow web site report So it proved, with Bewley being the match winner, making a mockery of his 3.00 average. pot calling the kettle black here glasgow used him to earn a win at rye house.

As has been pointed out on a previous post Glasgow did exactly the same at Rye house using Bewley as a guest, Also using the old system Somerset would of still been able to use Bewley as a guest because any rider averaging under 3 would get their average rounded up to 3 meaning Wajtknecht average would be 3 anyway

Hardly pot calling the kettle black , they are only stating fact that Bewley was the match winner don't see what else they can write.
Joe Beevers 207 Posted August 22, 2016 Sounded like a great meeting but Somerset are now even more in the driving seat and they used two guests to be fair. Great performance from Daniel Bewley.
Aroundtheboards 264 Posted August 22, 2016 08.00. 22/8/16. It still reads the same, Dan Bewley or no Dan Bewley !!! Glasgow Tigers 44 - Somerset Rebels 46 !!!

Mad Max 216 Posted August 22, 2016 Take both #7s out and it's an easy win for us. So a lot to be positive about but worrying we have two riders that have stalled a bit just before the crunch part of the season. take both #3s out and its a massacre!!
EnglishRoundabout 1,752 Posted August 22, 2016 The beauty about speedway is that it is totally unpredictable. When teams require guests, most team managers choose riders that are either in good form or have a proven track record at a particular track. Garry May certainly does this. The choice of Bewley was an astute one for sure. However, sometimes it just doesn't happen. In the play off semi finals a year or so ago, Somerset chose Kennett as a guest for Kurtz. Kennett was poor on the night. That's the way it goes. You win some, you lose some. There is lots of talk about who would have won the meeting if the Rebels didn't have Bewley in their side. The likelihood on current form if both teams were at full strength , would probably have been a Glasgow win, but a tight win at that. But that wasn't the case. Aroundtheboards is simply stating facts and what it says in black and white. A two point win for Somerset.
