What About Cal Crutchlow....

Recommended Posts

Two weeks ago at Brno, Czech Republic, Cal won the Moto GP race. The first Brit to win a top tier GP for 35 years (Barry Sheene - 1981)

OK, the track was wet but drying, riders/teams were choosing tyres not knowing if they would last, especially as it was a drying track. Cal chose well, his tyres did last and he won. But was it a fluke due to the weather, after all he is riding a non official-factory supported team bike - a Honda but not a full factory bike.

Yesterday the MotogP circus was at Silverstone, a very fast circuit (as Brno is). What does Cal do ??? he puts his bike on pole position, the first time a Brit on pole in top tier Gp for 39 years (I think). For qualifying the track was very damp, so this evens teams out a bit.

More then that though, the race was a dry race, and what does he do? He goes and gets 2nd place in the race beating Rossi, Marquez, Pedrosa Lorenzo, Dovi, Ianone - all factory bikes, losing to first time Moto GP winner Maverick Vinhales. Its a well done to Cal from me. And when I say he gets 2nd place in the RACE, it was a race - Cal was dicing and beating Rossi and Marquez virtually all through the race until Rossis tyres went off and Marquez did an enforced error (caused by dicing with Cal).

Add to that, in the Moto 3 race two weeks ago in Brno, young John McPhee won a wet race on the 250's. The first Scotsman to win a GP since 1962. John is a wet track specialist, where total power is not all that important, in fact his Moto3 bike is so much less then the top bikes he "only" finished 15th yesterday at ultra fast Silverstone. Well done to John McPhee.

Apart from that, at Silverstone in the Moto2 GP (600cc bikes), Sam Lowe was dicing for 1st 2nd, 3rd with less then 3 laps to go when he was shunted off the track and bike by Frenchman Johan Zarco, current world champion and leading the 2016 table, with Lowe 3rd in the championship and a challenger.. Zarco stayed on to finish about 7th but was penalised or the accident which took him out of the points.

Some fantastic racing , especially in Moto 3.

and then there was Formua 1 from Monza........... how boring
