Bandits4eva 998 Posted November 12, 2016 If we can get Tom Perry in at reserve, IMO, bit of a no brainer. Not over the moon about the rumours of Garrity coming to us but if it happens then so be it...would Have to look at it as something fresh and certainly will give us some excitement! Got to think we'll have Doolan back as captain too. The rest... God knows!

screm 8,053 Posted November 13, 2016 Liam will struggle to maintain that average in the main body of the team. Agree with you, IMO this is where the rule makers didn't go far enough last season regarding the draft system as the likes of Liam Carr should've had his starting average last season protected so that even if riders like Carr weren't going to be part of the 2017 draft they would still make attractive signings and it would mean a high possibility of seeing more British riders getting team places which after all is what the draft system is supposed to do. Carr at home might be able to hold his average but away from Shielfield is likely to struggle.
Lygonlad 28 Posted November 13, 2016 Bollocks he was regularly a high scorer in meetings when some of the heat leaders were not firing and this year at second string riders will be weaker surely?
DSC67 1,465 Posted November 13, 2016 Bollocks he was regularly a high scorer in meetings when some of the heat leaders were not firing and this year at second string riders will be weaker surely? when he was at reserve he was getting 6 maybe 7 starts when he's at number 4 or 2 he'll only get
Normski 1,315 Posted November 13, 2016 So a team like this would keep Liam in the reserve berth. D Bellego 7.63, K Doolan 6.99, C Vissing 6.80, T Proctor 6.68, D Gappmaier 5.00, L Carr 4.81, R Shuttleworth 2.00. TOTAL 39.

screm 8,053 Posted November 13, 2016 Bollocks he was regularly a high scorer in meetings when some of the heat leaders were not firing and this year at second string riders will be weaker surely? Some of Carr`s scores towards the end of last season were excellent but it should be remembered he had six or seven races some nights, and some of those races were against opposition reserve riders. Racing in the No2 race jacket he can only have a maximum of five rides, most of which will be against opposition heat leaders.

That's the next stage of his apprenticeship though , he cant be protected at reserve for ever . Look at Paul Starke , kicked about as a three pointer for a couple of years , then his career started to make progress until last season he wasn't far off heat leader level . Who's to say young Liam can't make similar progress .
Fromafar 10,358 Posted November 13, 2016 Bollocks he was regularly a high scorer in meetings when some of the heat leaders were not firing and this year at second string riders will be weaker surely? He did make good progress last season but if you look at the riders he beat for his high scores it shows a different story,he was one of the best reserves in the league though. In the team will be totally different ballgame,I wish him well though. Lygonlad 28 Posted November 13, 2016 I believe in Liam anyway and would not like to see somewhere else benefit his progress! Weaker league therefor I think he will shock a few!
Barnstormer 37 Posted November 13, 2016 (edited) Pretty sure Gappmaier under new rules is 4.00 start season As his end season one was 3.75 Edited November 13, 2016 by Barnstormer
Normski 1,315 Posted November 13, 2016 Pretty sure Gappmaier under new rules is 4.00 start season As his end season one was 3.75 Bit confusing his effective average is 3.75 but it also has 5.00 in brackets.
Reviresco 708 Posted November 13, 2016 4.00 is the Match Average allocated to "new" foreign riders next season. 5.00 will be the Match Average allocated to "existing" foreign riders who did not attain an average above 5.00 in 2016, so Gappmaer would be allocated a commencing Match Average of 5.00 for 2017 - as would Riders like Paco Castagna, Mason Campton and Mark Riss.
