Ben91 1,743 Posted December 3, 2016 People have been moaning for the last however many years that there aren't enough riders around, now there is a surplus. That says to me that we didn't need doubling up for the coming season or at least there should have been a cap. When the likes of Morley, Stefan Nielsen etc. may not have a club in either of the top two divisions at the start of the year and the likes of Busch, Grondal, Gappmaier and Wallner are on similar averages and have team spots that is unacceptable. I'm not against overseas riders, they enrich the product but when there is a homegrown rider just as good, if not better that could fill the team spot then they should be given that chance. Two rounds of fixtures in both divisions mean that riders are getting plenty of rides having just one club in 2017. So far there are seven riders declared in sides at both levels, five at Coventry granted, those are: Danny King, Jason Garrity, Lasse Bjerre, Lewis Kerr, Josh Bates, Jack Holder and Kyle Howarth. There are riders around that are completely unattached and could have taken a a spot from one of these riders at one of their clubs. If we had a scenario where riders were not riding for a team in each division it would give the play-offs more legitimacy for one and also open up the potential for a cup competition encompassing both divisions which equals more fixtures.
bruno 1,790 Posted December 3, 2016 (edited) Off topic a bit but it's the reason I've lost it with football, when the premiership started it was top foreign players who joined but now it's anybody resulting in limited home grown players resulting in a loss of local identity for teams. Then again crowds at premier league teams are still big so maybe it's me Edited December 3, 2016 by bruno
SCB 0 Posted December 3, 2016 This is what happens when you allow a doubling up free for all. Doubling up should have been limited to 3 riders per team (EL and PL) this season, and announced it would be 2 per team in 2018.

waiheke1 4,295 Posted December 3, 2016 Should have just said brits only csn double up. And minimum 5 pl/7cl assessed average for foreign riders. Or: max 1 foreign rider per team can double up
SCB 0 Posted December 3, 2016 Should have just said brits only csn double up. And minimum 5 pl/7cl assessed average for foreign riders. Or: max 1 foreign rider per team can double upSurely the minimum average has to be the same in both leagues if all other riders are the same
waiheke1 4,295 Posted December 3, 2016 Surely the minimum average has to be the same in both leagues if all other riders are the sameYes it does! So assume a 5 old El which is now a 7. So 7 for both leagues.
DC2 11,150 Posted December 3, 2016 Yes it does! So assume a 5 old El which is now a 7. So 7 for both leagues. Why should it be a minimum 7 average for new foreigners when there are plenty of existing foreigners on lower averages? Should promoters be encouraged to keep signing riders like Klindt & Konopka rather than new ones & why should every new foreigner be penalised with high averages when they too are the future lifeblood of our sport because we have too few British riders. Any new foreigners should simply have an assessed average depending on how good they are (looking at their averages in other leagues) - maybe with a minimum of 4 for those who have not ridden in the top leagues in Poland, Sweden or Denmark & a maximum of 9 for those who have qualified for the GPs or achieved greater than 8 in any of those leagues - but not everyone on a 7. That would be mad.

That would be mad. Because over time the number of existing foreigners that are not up to the required standard will go down and eventually teams will only employ those that they believe are truly worth investing time and money in. There are not too few British riders. There are plenty without a job in the top two divisions at present.
bruno 1,790 Posted December 3, 2016 Trouble is the people who decide averages are the same people who run teams. Madness. #closed shop
