From the SGB website re Ryan Terry-Daley: STOKE have announced the signing of Ryan Terry-Daley as their fifth confirmed starter for the 2017 National League campaign. Terry-Daley will be entering a second spell with the Potters, for whom he rode in 2015 before returning to parent club Coventry last year. Manager Malcolm Vasey said: “This is a watershed time in Ryan’s career. He returns every year from the other side of the world and he now needs to show everyone what he is about. “He is joining a club anxious to recover from an indifferent season and we expect his performance and contribution to reflect this.” ...and the Stoke website... Anyway, jesting aside, we can but hope that now the Poachers are finalizing their team line-up, they might turn their attention to the rather pressing matter of offering a product that potential customers might be inclined to pay for. I'm sure that all clubs are trying to sign the best riders they can afford (or fit the averages) & still keep their club afloat in these trying times. I for one will attend stoke as often as i can & not moan about the riders who will be trying their best to entertain us the paying public. When you have no track to call you own as long as i have please sometimes be thankful for what you have.I know we all want our team to be the best & top of the league but, this is not always possible for all. Which aspects of the promotion do you feel are worth encouraging? Do you think the efforts of the management are particularly commendable in any particular area? Or do you think that supporters past and present should support the Poachers simply because they operate a speedway venue? With regard to your point about the management responding, I am struggling to see the management responding or reacting to anything at all. And your mention of Stoke Speedway supporters AT LARGE is a little perplexing as I am not sure that there are any. Come on Stoke, you used to be a decent venue and with a little effort, you can be again. As a speedway fan in general i find it hard to read some of the moaning about signed riders. I'm sure that all clubs are trying to sign the best riders they can afford (or fit the averages) & still keep their club afloat in these trying times. I for one will attend stoke as often as i can & not moan about the riders who will be trying their best to entertain us the paying public. Some just have to keep going anyway they can. (Short rant over) The riders are not the problem here. All riders deserve support whether they be good or not so good. But I will not go to a venue that fails to put on it's scheduled meetings, forgets to pay it's riders, allegedly poaches riders from other clubs or can't find a 10p for the leccy meter. There is absolutely no reason at all why any management should respond with abuse, aggression, hostility or any such reaction in the face of supporter criticism, even if that criticism is most unfair (and, in my experience, most of it isn't). What that will do is simply make matters worse and drive more people away. The answer is to engage, listen, take note, respond as truthfully and favourably as possible, change if you can and above all treat this person as a customer that you want to return again and again and again. (Short rant over) What you have said there is that a promotion do not have to make an effort with the team, the track, the stadium or public relations and people should still go however bad things might be. It is absolutely untrue that crap speedway is better than no speedway at all and that if a speedway track closes down that it is all the fault of those who fail to attend. The duty is on the promotion to put on something that persuades people to part with their money and give it everything they can in an attempt to do so. If they then fail, they can at least have the satisfaction of knowing they have done their best. Little Thumper 528 Posted January 7, 2017 I've just been having a nosy on the Edinburgh Monarchs site and one feature was a customer feedback survey. One would assume that the promoters would take the information gleaned from this survey and do all within their power to fine tune their product and ensure that it meets the needs of the paying customer. Surely, this would be a good starting point for Stoke? Get some feedback from customers past and present and see what low cost remedial measures can be implemented to encourage people to form a queue at the gate. It isn't difficult, is it? If the Poachers don't get people coming through the gates, then we might again be in the situation where riders are allegedly struggling to get paid and the electricity is being rationed. Funny isn't it that a speedway track can be struggling to get a couple of hundred people through the gate yet people seem to be thronging into this place to lose loads of dosh? I've nothing against Hanley, Newcastle or Stoke but it isn't the most affluent place in the Northern Hemisphere, so you would have to assume that our gambling friends are coming from out of the area. Perhaps, Dean's lady friend could put a few speedway posters up in the vestibule to encourage some of the punters to drop by Gloomy Road and put a shout out for the Poachers.
