Stoke Potters 2017

Recommended Posts

Well, Dean's favourite haunt the Hanley Casino sure looks a pretty grand place.

Funny isn't it that a speedway track can be struggling to get a couple of hundred people through the gate yet people seem to be thronging into this place to lose loads of dosh?

I've nothing against Hanley, Newcastle or Stoke but it isn't the most affluent place in the Northern Hemisphere, so you would have to assume that our gambling friends are coming from out of the area.

Perhaps, Dean's lady friend could put a few speedway posters up in the vestibule to encourage some of the punters to drop by Gloomy Road and put a shout out for the Poachers.

:t:

it's not my favourite haunt i proberly only go in once every couple of months and she is definatly not my friend , can't stand the woman and she will do nothing for stoke speedway including sodding off which is what everybody wants , I don't attend stoke these days and if I do she makes me feel as welcome as a bacon sarni in a mosque Edited by THE DEAN MACHINE

Apparently, young Mr Terry-Daley is Stoked to be returning to Gloomy Road.

Haha, a play on words, like it!

Perhaps this injection of humour is the first step on the revitalization road for our friends from Staffordshire.

Couple of points, Ryan, you'd have done better at the speedway track in the clouds and if I were you, if you are planning on going back to NZ, I'd put your air fare money to one side, if you know what I mean.

Stoked!

I see that Chris Hay has been poached and will be spending 2017 in the company of our friends from the Midlands, the Birmingham Brum Brums.

The Gloomy Road crew must be disappointed to have one of their potential 2017 line up tempted away by a better offer but hey, sh*t happens.

Perhaps Mr Tedham might still be available?

Poaching only applies when a deal has been done and then a better offer is thrown out and the rider renegades on the original deal (not that Stoke would know anything about that kind of behaviour ;) )

Im not sure many sides would be excited about the inclusion of Chris Hay anyway? Fingers crossed Shaun Tedham is already in the team plans as he appears to be a Stoke or nowhere rider, a genuine trier & despite being as nutty as a fruit bat a very nice bloke.

Scratch that 3.98 remaining and Tedham on 3.93 looks a nailed on signing.

Sings4Kings, you seem to well versed in these matters.

Do you have suggestions who might fill the remaining slots at Gloomy Road?

Thanks

Not sure how many extra riders you would like at Gloomer Road? From what i can see there is only the Tedham sized gap to fill? Plus Sam ward at number 8 again as Stoke have stopped doing anything to unearth their own riders.

Stoke Potters

1. Mitchell Davey 8.34

2. Shaun Tedham 3.93

3. Luke Priest 8.33

4. Ryan Terry-Daley 4.55

5. Tony Atkin 7.16

6. Chris Hay 3.23

7. David Wallinger 3.32

8. Sam Ward 3.00

Looks an alright team with solid heat leaders so providing the 2nd strings & reserves can do a bit it might not be so gloomy this season? How many matches Davey misses doubling up will probably decide the fate of Stokes season.

Golly, that sneaked up on me!

I must have been that under-whelmed that I hadn't noticed that they had just about managed to hand out all the race jackets.

With this line-up, I can't see them getting in the top half of the table.

But hey, who knows.

Hopefully, the Gloomy Roadsters can now turn their attention to avoiding the situation where the crowd is introduced to the riders.

Come on Stoke, you can do it if you really try!

There you go!

We are both dopes.

I was having a chat with Andy Mellish at a grass track meeting last year.

What a very pleasant chap indeed and a good friend of Tony Atkin.

So, sadly, your suggestion that he might go to Stoke may be a wise one.

Hope not because I quite like the guy.

Needs as needs must, I suppose and perhaps he might be Stoked.

Super ted signs Shaun Tedham confirmed

What is he now? 36 years old? The perfect man for this Dads Army team.

Stoke Potters

1. A 27 year old

2. A 36 year old

3. A 32 year old

4. A 22 year old

5. A 51 year old

6. Victor Meldrew? Albert Steptoe? Privtate Frazer? (who knows?)

7. A 32 year old

Combined ages of the six so far signed riders = 200

Average age per rider = 33yrs & 4 months

Is there a record for the oldest ever team?

I hear the arguements about having an experienced rider on hand to help the youngsters along, but seriously, this it going a bit too far isn't it? Poor Arthur Daley is there just to remind the oldies what it is to have been young once, isn't he?

I'm sorry, but for the role that the National League is supposed to play in developing young talent, this team is bringing that concept into disrepute.

Stoke - like most of the present NL - is a standalone team whose purpose is to entertain their supporters and win matches (at least at home). And if possible, make a bit of money ...

I think Tony A deserves a pass as you are unlikely ever to see another of his tender age racing regularly at any level in s/way again :D

This is not good for G.B. Speedway, this team should not be approved by the BSPA/SCB the "3rd." division should be all about developing young British riders. I can also state that a few years ago I refused to ride in this league for that reason!
