If I wanted to become a speedway promoter where could I find a stadium where there is an unused track waiting to be brought back to life? please don't say Coventry as that's a given - I interested to see if there any long forgotten ones still around like Oxford

No Track here - but one could be fitted in:

Sunderland Greyhound Stadium

East Boldon,

Sunderland.

Good luck. :t::) :)

Hi,

I don't think the Hackney information is quite accurate. They re-opened for one season in 1996 as the London Lions and then again for one season in 2011 as Hackney Hawks. Sadly, the NOT RUNNING bit is correct.

The Hackney Hawks name was revived in 2011 in the National League as a joint promotion between the promotions at Lakeside and Rye House with the Hawks home matches being divided between the two parent tracks

It would be great to see speedway back at Aldershot. They have stock cars there on a regular basis. If only I had the money......

I believe there will be teams racing in 2017 under the names of Exeter Falcons (at Somerset) and Reading Racers (at Eastbourne) and possibly others such as Weymouth either as part of a Southern Junior League or on an unofficial basis.

Okay, it's youth orientated, but nothing wrong with that, and neither team has a home to call its own, but surely its a start?

According to the Google maps the former Berrington Lough home of the Bandits looks in pretty good shape. It amazes me that the team survived in the middle of nowhere.

Called in once (but not on a match day) and, yes, it was miles from anywhere down this winding country lane.

Hasn't the stadium's suitability for hosting Speedway been investigated on a number of occassions over the years and always it's the very close proximity of housing that kills off any chance of the sport returning there ?

Sadly it doesn't matter how good a venue is these days the nimby's will always win.

No - there is no problem with Housing in the near vicinity of the Boldon, Sunderland Greyhound Stadium. The nearest housing is a decent way off. I doubt very much if that would be a problem.
