Fastest Track Speeds

Always puzzles me how people keep going on about how modern bikes are so much faster but you don't see many track records being broken these days.

The post-2010 silencers have slowed them down a bit. No-one, not even top EL 'stars', have got near Jason Lyons' track record at Birmingham.

Krystoff Kasprzak was clocked at 74mph on back straight at Leicester 3, maybe 4 years ago. It was timed with a speed gun....

Because, as stated above (Post No. 9 by Britmet), Bikes and Engines have changed over the years and a lot of Tracks haven't. Some are basically the same as they were back in 1928. The Tracks were OK for Speedway in those days but with the 'Rocket Ships' Riders are using these days the Sport has become faster (minimally) and more dangerous hence a greater risk of injury.

 

Certainly I don't believe that the Bikes are that much faster that it justifies all of the cost involved in having them Tuned.

Aaahh yes - I remember - I read about that.

I seem to remember one of the motorcycle papers ( motorcycle or MCN) testing a speedway bike, possibly Simon Wigg on board? on a beach somewhere to actually see how fast it would go , remember that they ran out of gearing before they explored the limits of the top speed, but it was something in excess of 100MPH and 120MPH comes to mind.

Not relevant to a speedway track, but quite obvious why speedway engines are ideal for sprinting

I remember he did a test at a road racing track and as his speed increased he lost control of direction and went onto the grass and had a tank slapper. That was on TV.
