Needs a crowd to make some atmosphere...

A decent amount of away fans too would help....

To be fair though..

Pretty hard to generate atmosphere when, for instance, someone starts a Mexican wave and you are relying on the ref and starting marshall to join in just to keep it going....☺

I wish the promoters could find a way to help fans support their teams away by making entrance cheaper ....

Wouldn't be hard to do...

Just let the away team sell tickets to their fans from their own ticket office...

Even Premier League football caps an away ticket at £30 for every match so why doesn't Speedway do it for say a tenner?...

eg. BV v Swindon this week would see Swindon fans getting in for a tenner, which might just encourage some to attend? Throw in a free programme too and they would save around a tenner on the usual costs.

Four people in a car would therefore save forty quid between them which would go a long way to pay for expensive fuel, and BV would pick up forty quid that more than likely they wouldn't have...

The more away fans, the better the atmosphere, the better the atmosphere, the more likely are people to attend again..

Twenty Swindon fans paying a tenner each is better than none at all paying full price...

I found it most distressing at Belle Vue once, horrid northerners. Were they chanting"What a load of rubbish"at The Shabbey last night?

not allowed to make too much noise or stand up in the grandstand at Poole or else the H & S tw@ts will be on your back. creepy little sh!ts they are.

You can stand right at the back of the main grandstand. Nothing stopping you from doing that.. :t:

But chanting and cheering and the like went out in the 70's.. Sadly.

Said this many times, speedway needs to follow the road taken by darts, snooker, boxing by getting riders to have nicknames - not the boring predictable type but put a bit of thought into it.

Secondly, there arn't enough villains who can get the crowd fired up and booing.

It's all got far too nice.

Season tickets should include half price admission to away matches

As for chanting, have wanted to to this at King's Lynn but only a handful seem interested in bothering.

Maybe we should go down the route of rentacrowd to get people involved.

'Drink up thy zider, drink up thy zider,
For tonight we'll merry be....(merry be)

We're going down to Wimborne, to turn the Pirates over

And there's still more Zider in the jar'... ;-)

'Hello hello...we are the Rebels boys,
Hello hello...we are the Rebels boys,
And if you are a Pirates fan, surrender or you die,
We all follow the Rebels'...

'Yer sister is yer mother,
Yer uncle is yer brother,
You only s*ag each other,
The Pirates family'...

'Flying high up in the sky,
We'll keep the rebs flag flying high,
Cider heads until we die,
We'll keep the rebs flag flying high'...

'We all follow the Rebels,
Over land and sea, (and Pirates),
We all follow the Rebels,
Onto victory....

(repeated)

'My Ol man, said be a Pirates fan...I said '**** off, B*****X...youre a........ ' hahahaha ;-)

;):D Can just hear it now from the banks of the Oaktree lol

In all seriousness though, it does need a little more input from the riders as well as the fans imo.

I noticed last night, Richard Lawson fist pumping to the Somerset fans after his great rides. Took a lap after the race doing it...such a simple gesture, but it led to applause, increased the atmosphere and led to a better 'feeling' amongst the crowd.

A simple gesture, that made a difference imo.

When Wolverhampton were a good side in the mid 90s they sued to bring a lot of fans to Belle Vue. Their number and collective noise created great banter and even keener support from both sets of supporters, and the matches seemed more evenly contested out on the track. I suppose that's why the old Wolves-Cradley matches were so intense.

Perhaps encouraging away support by lowering admission for away fans would be worth a try - but it isn't my money and the promoters will have to consider this. I know this could be open to abuse, but there must be away to ensure that only away fans can pass the test.

But, again with me, I have a negative. You have to give the fans from both sides a reason to support their teams... and this means riders they connect with. Otherwise it's a case of showing your passions for somebody that's going to leg it for the quickest door once they have chance. Once stung and all that.

I've always thought this but it doesn't seem to be too important for some fans judging by replies I've had in the past. Does to me though and it used to irritate me at Coventry when certain riders used to win a race and then go straight back to the pits. Money earned and that's it ~ no interaction with the fans at all. Well, sorry but it's all part of the match to me and I'd like to feel they are pleased to have won the race for their team and appreciate the fans. At least at Leicester the winning rider gets a flag shoved into his hand and does a victory lap so it all adds to the 'feel good' factor.

Agreed...and although the cynical amongst us may look through it, as when a footballer kisses the badge after scoring, it does however make for a better atmosphere. I can only judge this from what I witness when a rider makes the effort.

The cynic in me thought last night...'is this something Lawson has learnt at Glasgow, or does he actually mean it.' Either way...it worked.

Tbh...at Somerset, although it has a naturally 'respectful' crowd, when the racing is good, it creates a natural reaction of jubilance and applause. When trying to create 'war cries' etc, it often ends up on deaf ears and no participation.

The action on the track creates the atmosphere. Rider participation with the crowd also helps.

I did have to laugh though last night...the 'DJ' was playing some rather good Indie Rock music, that leant itself well to the racing...Stereophonics, Kings of Leon...that type of thing. An old Plymouth Devils fan was complaining the whole time about the music. Then the 'DJ' did a Simon Bates moment, and read out a 'love request' to the music of 'Our Tune'...soothing, calming and Romantic to say the least...his exclamation...'that's more like it'...you can't win lol

Is that what the Brizzle City fans sing to the Rovers Pirates?

If I had the wings of a Robin if I had the Arse of a crow i'd fly over Poole/Oxford/Bristol/Burnham-on-Sea tomorrow and poo on the buses below.

We hate Woverhampton we hate Belle Vue too and Leicester we hate Poole Pirates but Swindon we love you.

We all live in a Rosco wonderland...repeated 20 times while leaping around wildly waving a programme board and flask over your head.

We are the Robins and we are the best we are the Robins so feck all the rest, feck em all feck em all Poole Pirates Belle Vue and Wolves.

Good old Swindon we're proud to say that name while we sing this song you'll win the game

Doyley Doyley born is the king of Blunsdon Abbey.

I'd rather be a Moonie than a Knob...(from Wiltshire rather than Dorset)

Whoaoaoa Bellego whoaoaoa Bellego.

Morra Morra Morra oi oi oi

Rosco there's only one Rosco

2468 who do we appreciate...ROBINS.

Indeed they do...and a few more less 'savoury' songs.

Not my thing tbh...I leave that to the section 82 lads. I sit in with the old boys in the Dolman quietly moaning about everything lol ;-) as we do...

Used to like playing against Swindon.

However...I'll be able to watch you next season with my second team. FGR's in the mighty League 2. Mr Cooper coming back to haunt you ;-)

Now if only the electric speedway boys had thought of contacting Dale Vince and his Ecotricity empire that is FGR's, and getting a track around the outside of his new proposed Wooden Stadium near Stroud. :-)

I like Forest Green also, those vegans from Nailsworth, although the players and fans regularly raid Greggs in Stroud.

Veggie burgers for local rivals Swindon Chelts and Newport fans next season.

Bad memories of Ashton Gate, police escort for us Gooners from Temple Meads in the rain, as The Arsenal lost their 12 match unbeaten run around 1976.

Worked in Bedminster for a while, full of City fans.
