The Parable of Poole Speedway.

During the winter, Matt Ford decided he would need some help with the club accounts and team building.  He advertised the position in the Echo.

Three people applied for the job.  A Mathematician, an Engineer, and an Ex-SCB official.

First up for interview was the mathematician, and Matt decided to test him with a question....     "What is 2+2?",  asked Matt.

The mathematician looked him in the eye and replied  "Under universally agreed mathematical protocol, 2+2 must always equal 4"

Next for interview was the engineer.  Matt again tested him with the same question.   "What is 2+2?", he asked.

The engineer looked him in the eye and replied "Under engineering convention, 2+2 equals 4.000, plus or minus the standard tolerance of 0.05%"

The final interview was the ex-SCB official.  Matt again posed the same question.  "What is 2+2?" he asked.

The ex-SCB offical looked him in the eye and replied  "What do you need it to be?"

It may only be the first week, but this surely qualifies as 'post of the season'. :D

Lot of supporters questioning the rights/wrongs of Poole signing Kildeman and earlier the 2 Poles. A great sign or ringers, each will have an opinion.

However for next season to prevent this. BSPA at the end of October should have a list of every speedway rider worldwide. Each rider is given his current end of season UK average. Non UK riders an assessed average depending on leagues they ride in. This list is then published for promoters / supporters etc. Any rider who wishes to appeal his average then has 5 days to appeal to a BSPA panel. Panel makes final decision and this official BSPA average list is published at the latest 1st November.

Promoters team building, use this list and no changes or acceptions can be made.

Each year same procedure. Riders, promoters, supporters all will know where they are.

You fail to see.... then say they have taken advantage of a 'clear loophole'.

I asked you to quote me the rule. The fact that you cannot shows that the loophole is far from 'clear'. It is yet another case of who is asking.

Its not a case of who is asking. Its a fact that Matt Ford is so far ahead of his rival promoters that they don’t even know the question to ask.

No rules have been broken.  Nothing to see here. Time to move along and find something else to find about Poole for these saddos to bitch about.

Come on David,    that far too simple.     How can we infiltrate loop holes in that.    Surely, even you must appreciated the necessity  for loopholes in the rules......

There was a vote to decide the best ever rider at the millennium when probably more people were alive who had seen Ivan and Tony in their prime. Ivan won and Tony was second.

To be fair, Tony added 3 of his 6 World Titles after the millenium, which makes a substantial difference to the way he is viewed in the history of the sport.

Is the standard line every time.

Soon there will truly be 'nothing to see here'. THAT is the problem.

Taking advantage of a loophole is not doing anything wrong.

I haven’t even bothered looking for the rule, I am merely going off what everyone else has stated Re: the reassessed averages.

From browsing these threads over the winter and reading comments from people who have attended forums with their sides promotions etc, it seems that any rider who rode in the 2017 SGP series as a declared starter or is down to ride in the 2018 series as a declared starter will have their 2018 Premiership average reassessed to 9.00, if they missed the 2017 season in the Premiership. Hence Zagar, Woffy etc being re assessed to 9.00.

I do not see how Vaculik has been given 8.00, that is extremely puzzling.

I can see however how Iversen has retained his 9.06 figure as it was higher than the standard reassessed average being dished out. Thats happened a few times before where if your higher than the required average, you keep the higher average. I am sure SCB will step in and provide some examples

So you are making asserted comments that nothing has been done wrong when you don't even know what the rule is?

There is the problem. NOBODY knows what the rule is. We have Gordon Pairman saying there is no rule.. we have riders saying and other promoters saying there is.

Whether Poole have done anything wrong or not is irrelevant. The damage is done yet again. More fans pissed off and with some of them it will push them over the edge to abandon the sport at league level altogether, like many others before them.

The sport never learns. It would be very simple to have completely open rules for situations like this, but they never do.. you have to ask yourself why.

The only problem here is petty jealousy from the usual anti Poole mob who can’t stand it that Matt Ford is nearly always two steps ahead of his rivals.

You're right!

That's the only problem.

Not the dwindling crowds year on year. Of course, we were always told, other clubs need to promote like good ol Matt does at Poole, why he gets packed crowds every week... except, as predicted by many, he no longer does. Now Poole can't even afford racesuits.

Can’t afford racesuits? Is that another one of the rumours the anti Poole brigade spew out as truth? Yet the winner of tonights meeting walks away with ten grand.

It’s strange he cannot afford team suits yet can give away such a large sum on a whim. Perhaps, just perhaps, he can actually afford team suits but has decided he doesn’t want them this season. But that answer probably won’t fit in with the anti Poole brigade.

Averages aren't killing the sport. The application of average assessment is. Haphazard at best, fraudulent at worst.

Don’t know, don’t care, just don’t cheat (again).
