Recommended Posts

surely any rider who completes the series and does not finish in the top eight should not be considered for the following season anyway ?

What does the current ruling say about wild cards? Whether or not it says anything at all, it has now become custom and practice to consider for the 4 wild card places any that finish out of the top 8, whether it be for reason of injuries or "hard luck", lack of form or whatever.

What I would not like to see it that more places are given to fresh faces. This year there are 3 fresh faces coming from the GP Challenge, to me that is enough fresh faces for one gp year. Reason being its tough in the GPs, and not everyone getting into can perform at the highest level consistently over a gp season.

So keep it as it is....... and just consider one of the main benefits - as it is, it provides lots of discussion on the BSF, without the current wild card it would leave the forum fairly quiet.

why? That just means you are watering down the product??

So in your view no Hancock, Holder, Pedersen, Zagar, Lindback, Vaculik

And have Milik, MJJ,Thorsell, Smolinski.

No thanks the best 15 are the best 15 even if they came 9th 10th and 11th this season

Tbf he did say "completes the series" which I assume means he would consider places for Hancock nicki and Puk.

Ridiculous. If you have the best 15 riders in the world have to finish 9th to 15th no matter who they are.

2005: Nicholls 9th, Lindback 10th, both received wildcards for 2006

2006: Lindback 9th, Nicholls 10th, both received wildcards for 2007

2007: Harris 9th, Jonsson 10th, both received wildcards for 2008

2008: Nicholls 9th, Lindgren 10th, both received wildcards for 2009

2009: Lindgren 9th, Andersen 10th, both received wildcards for 2010

2010: Jonsson 9th, Pedersen 10th, both received wildcards for 2011

2011: Lindgren 9th, Pedersen 10th, both received wildcards for 2012

2012: Andersen 9th, Vaculik 10th, only Vaculik received a wildcard for 2013

2013: Gollob 9th, Kasprzak 10th, Lindgren 11th, Holder 12th, Gollob retired from GP, Kasprzak qualified through Challenge, Lindgren and Holder received wildcards for 2014

2014: Batchelor 9th, Lindgren 10th, only Batchelor received a wildcard for 2015

2015: Kildemand 9th, Jonsson 10th, both received wildcards for 2016

2016: Janowski 9th, Zagar 10th, both received wildcards for 2017

im sure the idea of the system is to have as close to the best 15 riders in the world.

This season pretty much everybody was saying that we had that.

Out of the 15 this season only 8 can go forward to 2018.

So 7 of the worlds best will not be qualified

3 newbies have come through the challenge though I know Laguta has been there before.

Out of the 7 who at the start of 2017 were considered the best in the world only 4 could come back.

9th and 10th this season surely must be amongst the best in the world.

You could have situations where riders who have won a gp maybe 2 gp's might not be top 8.

Looking at the list Freddie is only 21 points clear of Vaculik in 9th,so say this happens and Freddie drops to 9th, 4 wildcards could be Hancock Holder Iversen and Lindgren.

The one point I would note is that just because we thought this year we had the top 15 riders in the world in the GPS, it does not mean that in fact the top 15 riders in the world have been the 15 riders in the gp field.

The likes of Laguta lebedevs Milik have been better than say Holder.

That's not to say Hokder shouldn't get a place, but that is based on his performances in previous years as well - on 2017 form he wouldn't deserve one.

Have Lebedevs and Milik been better than Holder ? certainly not in the Extraleague https://sportowefakty.wp.pl/zuzel/pge-ekstraliga/statystyki

Lebedevs had that purple patch mid season- but then struggled for quite a few weeks.

It's interesting isn't it? Based on some of the arguments on here, there are riders who will finish in the top 8 who don't deserve to go into 2018.

The ideal solution would be for the bottom 7 and the top 9 from the Challenge to race off for the 7 spaces. Trouble is, when would you do it? Boxing Day?

Could be early season 2018, early April. Two problems I see with that - tough meeting and riders are not match fit, and, riders need winter months to get sponsors (money) and time to get a regime to take them through 12 GP's.

So on one hand, it sounds a good idea, in practice its not so good.
