Swedish Elitserien Round 14 (final Round)

Recommended Posts

The live feed will be the one they decide to show live at 6pm- they also will have cameras at the other match which they will show later in the evening.

Smederna v Dackarna is the 6pm main match they are showing. https://www.cmore.se/kanaler

OK - I believe that Premier will only show the main match but will double check.

Both meetings are shown live at the same time but on different channels.

Smederna-Dackarna are shown on Cmore sport and Lejonen - Rospiggarna are shown live on Cmore live

Smederna - Dackarna will be the focus meeting but as I said they will cut in with action from the other meetings as well when there are grading breaks and etc.

The 'Sweden' round-up in this week's Speedway Star (w/e 26th August) paints a very bad picture of Swedish League speedway in the future!!

I'll try to reproduce most of the article as follows:-

'The crisis in Swedish speedway continues and in the space of 24 hours last week, it was announced that 2 more clubs were in trouble.

Elite League Piraterna were among the favourites for the title this year but have endured a poor season and will almost certainly miss the play-offs. With one round left (written before this week's fixtures) there is even the chance that the Motala club will be relegated.

Following the team's poor performances, crowds have gone down to an average of 2500 which is 500 lower than budgeted. As a result Piraterna have been unable to pay their riders!!

Meanwhile, Allsvenskan League Ornarna are in an even worse position and have confirmed they are withdrawing from any league racing after this season.

....Interest in the Elite league remains at a high level but teams are mainly made up of foreign riders and many clubs are struggling to make ends meet. Both Smederna and Indianerna should, in reality, have folded during 2016 but they were finally able to continue after what many regarded as questionable solutions.

Speedway is experiencing problems all over the world but in no other country has the sport lost so many clubs and riders in such a short time.

....It must now be doubtful if there will even be a proper 2nd tier in 2018!'

There is nothing questionable about what Smederna or Indianerna did. Both clubs found a way to survive Which surely is better then folding leaving the league crippled?

Both teams showed this season that they made the right choice, Smederna and Indianerna were predicted to finish last this season but Smederna have done very well and several of
their losses were close defeats. Smederna also must have done something right because their attendance for the series rounds ended up on 3615 which is second best of the Elitserien teams in 2017.

Smederna only had 2 meetings with less then 3000 in the attendance this season, against Dackarna which was a re-run of a postponed meeting and against Vetlanda
which everyone expected a big defeat beforehand. Smederna invested some money into their stadium to this season and it resulted in a better racing quality on the track

which together with the team's good results helped increase the attendance average from 2750 last season to 3615 this season. That is an increase by 30%.Surely that is better then to fold?

Piraterna's problem is due to pure stupidity. I think they were on red figures before the season started and that (hey have had below 3000 on average for several seasons now before 2017)

but the board and team manager somehow thought it was good idea to sign two new top riders for this season; Emil S and NK Iversen. They somehow thought that it would solve the

problems with red figures. The team didn't perform as expected and the attendance fell.

However Piraterna will rise again, just like Smederna, Masarna and Lejonen are back in business after previous problems.

They issue isn't the money itself but that team managers and club boards are too short sighted, too much "win now" attitude and not enough long time thinking strategy.
Like Piraterna deliberately side stepping Fredrik Engman to the point that he retired, Rospiggarna who deliberately brought in Timo Lahti first on a Swedish license
and then on a Swedish passport to be able to use him as a token Swede. Team in general are very poor at grow their own riders and instead
prefer to import talents from other countries.

Valsarna have announced that they are returning to Allsvenskan next season.

Don't shoot the messenger - I was only sharing the story.

Lets hope there is a viable Allsvenskan League for Valsarna to return to. Although with the British Premiership looking at going to a Thursday fixed night, not sure what will happen?

Allsvenskan is mostly Swedish riders with some Danish riders and 2-3 Polish riders. A Swedish rider who signs a contract with an Allsvenskan team will have to ride in Sweden since

it is written in the rules that Swedish riders racing abroad is not allowed to interfere with the rider's racing in the Swedish league system.

I guess it'll be all a matter of timing then, as to when its announced or confirmed what the format of the leagues in each country is going to be, and where riders feel safer that contracts will be honoured!?

MJJ at reserve for Smederna tomorrow

There is something very fishy about MJJ getting chance after chance despite his abysmal performance for Smederna. Last week he

scored 4p from 4 rides against a quite week opposition. He have ridden every meeting despite abysmal performances while

other riders have been side stepped several times. I don't get it.
