PROBABLY THE OLDEST COMPETITION STILL RUNNING

 

hought you may be interested in a bit of History - Originally run in 1928 as the Golden Helmet Won by Harry Whitfield who then left Boro to become an international star with Wembley .
1929 it was run after meetings , some impressive names here Eric Langton (2nd i 1st world final ) Frank Varey (Bele vue Legend), Norman Evans last tree won by Walter Creasor . No Competition between 1930 till 1945 .
1945 Now the Silver Helmet WON by Bill Kitchen of Wembley,
1946 - 3 scratch race finals -Malcolm Craven of West Ham , Jeff Llloyd of Newcastle , Frank Hodgson
1947 - run twice Wilf Plant & Frank hodgson
no competition until 1972 .JOHN JACKSON (eLLESMERE)
1973 LOU SANSOM (WORKINGTON)
1974 DAVE DURHAM (TEESSIDE)
1975 ALAN EMERSON (TEESSIDE)
1976 JOE OWEN (NEWCASTLE)
1977 NIG CLOSE (TEESSIDE)

Great write up thanks for the info ahead of Thursdays meeting. Fancied either Ben Barker or Scott Nicholls from the line up. However with Ben having a wrist injury and maybe not riding It may have to be Scott.

First won by Eric Langton on Sept. 28th, - Whitfield was the last holder of the 1928 season, - Nov. 9th.

Considering the weather this not bad at all, Charles Wright did well to win

 

Thanks to Scott Nichols for turning up & speaking to the crowd, hope he gets the chance to come back again

 

No doubt about it Ben Barker is mad, running around in his underpants!!! Hope he is back next year.
