KEITH M 850 Posted September 17, 2017 And Redcar end up in a play off spot but not be eligible to compete. Must study harder to understand this sport And a Junior rider who has never rode for your team before takes the place of your number one rider 😀

Tsunami 10,219 Posted September 17, 2017 (edited) People on facebook saying Alan Hedley has quit and pulled out? Any truth in this rumour? I have been at the track working most of the day. Alan's family set up the track shop after lunch and Alan arrived later. After the calloff with a heavy downpour, I lelt the track and Alan was in the office with George discussing future fixtures which is going to be a problem. I would have said, knowing both George and Alan very well, that everything was usual and normal in their demeanour and comments. We just took delivery of a brand new power washer for fence cleaning and banners, so that would be a bit strange if the rumour was true. The original person to post it was a Scottish lass but removed it after a short period. It was also stated that Redcar were going to be awarded 4 points for a win, as Newcastle without Alan were not going to restate the meeting. Utter bollocks. Methinks there is a Scottish troll inventing a situation which replicated what happened to the result of the meeting between Redcar and Glasgow and was awarded. These sort of people are trouble making and can seriously damage a club financially. Aceslider 218 Posted September 17, 2017 Glad Tsunami on the ball with this denial. Speedway gets enough bad press without this kind of spurious rumour.
erniew 163 Posted September 17, 2017 Agree totally with Aceslider, Thanks Tsunami for the voice of reason.
leander 495 Posted September 17, 2017 Don't see the point of fixtures after cut off when points to either team are purely academic. From Sheffield's perspective, they will still be competing in play offs and run the risk of injuries in a totally meaningless fixture. Maybe I am missing the point. So if Man City are eight points clear at the top of the Premiership with two weeks to go and the bottom three are already relegated you'd just cancel the last two weeks fixtures as they are pointless. Yea right.

Yea right.you wouldn't do it, as football is a sustainable product,,, so people would still turn up regardless. and,,, the football league would never hold their 'play-off' matches before the league table is completed. also, the FA usually has a rule book, that is understandable, (even the 'off-side' rule) comparing the two sports is ludacris. Yea right. If you want to compare speedway with football - fine. The difference is that in football teams earn their right to be in playoffs by finishing in the four places below the two automatically promoted sides. In speedway that may not happen e.g., Redcar could end up in a playoff position by reference to number of league points, but not compete in the playoffs because they have missed a cut off date. Hence my comment that league points earned after the cut off date are of no consequence.

But yes they are as the cut off point does not affect the finishing positions regarding table standings, or bragging rights.
