BRITISH Speedway bosses have moved to clarify the decisions over two well documented issues. Firstly, at a meeting of the British Speedway Promoters’ Association General Council, a review took place of the decision to prevent Premiership riders with an average of six or above also riding in the Championship. This rule was introduced for those riders who didn’t double-up last season and was seen as the first step towards reducing doubling-up in the sport. Unfortunately, and regrettably, Scott Nicholls and Edward Kennett – two fine servants of British Speedway – were caught up in this. General Council members have now voted to keep the regulation in place in order to gain more control of the doubling-up situation and begin steps to reduce the prospect of Premiership and Championship clubs looking too similar. Secondly, the application by Edinburgh to use American rider Luke Becker has been rejected. This is based on criteria set down by UKVI and not the British Speedway Promoters’ Association and, as such, the management committee had little choice but to follow the correct procedure. This also applies to Australian Ryan Douglas who is keen to race in the UK and clubs have registered their interest in signing him – but, like Becker, he doesn’t qualify for a visa. These procedures were clarified and implemented forcibly in recent years when British Speedway ran a serious risk of losing the use of all visa riders. We hope this statement goes some way to explaining the reasoning behind decisions taken by the Association as we continue to strive for transparency with our public, riders and sponsors.

As much as its rough on Scott & Eddie i am glad that for once the rules have been stuck to. Should riders/clubs be notified a season in advance of the changes, possibly but whats done is done and all parties can move forward aggrieved or otherwise

Thankfully they have stuck with the regulations , back to the drawing board for Peterborough ..bit silly really waiting until weeks before the season hanging on for either nicholls or kennett

And to think you were all worrying about the prospect of ostergaard riding at 5 this season.......come March you could well be seeing him in heat 1!!

Fantastic well done for sticking to the set out rules....its about time..and I hope it lasts.   Fantastic for speedway....Maybe in a few years it will become a proper sport once again.

Absolute farce, not the rules as they were set in stone. But the fact we went ahead and thought they would change the rules, its absolute child play. I'm a football owner, going to spend 1 billion quid, as they will change FFP rules next season, oh wait....

So how’s this work they stop Brits from earning a living but Panthers employ 3 Danes in there side - there is no wonder the sports on its knees .

But it is transparent...for this season no one over 6 allowed to double down unless already have a championship average....What's not transparent about that

You said that you hope it lasts and in a few years. The point is that as a rule they've never been transparent and one decision in isolation still means that they've a long way to go to reach their goal. This was an easy and logical decision although had they thought about it earlier then they could quite have easily changed the rule so as not to have to say "Unfortunately, and regrettably, Scott Nicholls and Edward Kennett – two fine servants of British Speedway – were caught up in this.".

How about if its so important to stop a rider over 6 then why are ALL not blocked regardless of having a Championship average

The irony also is that Scott wouldve ridden more meetings at Championship level guesting than a number of riders who did obtain an established average

Thought they were still racing for Rye House in the PL.If they are that hard up they could get an ordinary job to work along side their speedway.

As with most things there are limits,unfortunately those two are over that.

Think your totally missing the point  Aussies and Danes can double up but two Brits can’t - you say they are over the limit so come end of the season form dips average drops and they can then ride in the championship in 2019 how crazy is that ? And if he wanted to Craig Cook can ride in the championship how the hell does that work ?
