each to there own but with a one off final you get weird results. Pawlicki has been awful this season but had the Final been on the one day he performed, you know the rest.

Davy Watt might win the Aussie GP.

He would have had to qualify for the final though. If he had a bad round in the qualifiers then he wouldn't have made the final.

Unpredictabily or a fluke champion who is red hot on one night only. Depends what you want.

Watt could well have qualified for a one off final just like he qualified for this due to his Australian final score, just like riders qualified from the British final or from a Polish quality etc

AGreed. Would be surprised if Watt isnt more competitive than the likes of starostin and ondrasik who qualified for the old world finals.

I hope he does - to illustrate the mire that speedway as a sport worldwide is in. Or does he have the biggest circle of friends, family, acquaintances so that he could sell the most extra tickets? It must be something like that as his ability overall in the last three years demonstrates that there is no logical reason to include him, as an exciting speedway rider nowadays.

ITs been explained why he is in. Im not sure how many more times or different ways it can be explained. Its rhe same way the British wildcard at Cardiff is chosen.

Why in a "championship" does there have to be a wildcard? If it's got to be the OOFC - sorry, SGP - shouldn't it be between 16 riders and not 15?

There has been wildcards even in the one off world final

World Final, a contender could have a fall, EF and be done. after 2 rounds of heats were generally only a few riders in with a chance of winning anyway.

94 final was ok

93 ok

92 boring (but great result!)

91 Boring

90 brilliant

89 dreadful

88 ditto

87 ditto

86 ok

85 brilliant

84 boring

83 boring

82 mostly boring with one major incident

81 obviously brilliant

wont go any further back but point being we can all have rose tinted memories....

I love my rose tinted memories :t:

The retired and selfish Watt hasn't ridden a competitive race for roughly three months. If he beats one genuine GP rider in a race he'll have done well. He couldn't beat National League riders when last seen for Rye so it could be a complete embarrassment for him and the sport. No way can he be 100% fit and 100% prepared as this call up came late..

He shouldn't be so selfish by taking this spot in the line up. He retired and should stay that way..

The guy has moved halfway around the world,,broken bones, ridden through the pain barrier, struggled through tough times, he deserves the send off. More importantly he got this position b right. He's unlikely to trouble the other 15 but so what, would it make that much of a difference in Kurtz or someone was in it?

Nothing wrong with that Sir.

YES! Someone like Kurtz would be getting invaluable further experience to develop his career. Watt doesn't deserve a "send off" IMO because he rode on for far too long when he had neither the appetite for racing nor the ability. His Sell By date for being paid for racing expired at least four years ago. We all have problems in our personal life and we have to get on with our working lives or as he should have done - retire.

Waytogo has summed it up. Watt deserves no place in this field as he officially retired leaving both his UK & Polish team.

I hope he enjoys his comeback for one meeting, rides safely but this is an important GP not a benefit meeting.

OF course initially he was just a meeting reserve with no great expectation of getting a place in the whole meeting.
