Plymouth V Mildenhall National Trophy Final 06/10/17, Return 08/10/17

Recommended Posts

The BIG one!

The weather couldnt be any better for this time of year. Beautiful sunny day.

The Final is FINALLY here. :t: Plymouth last rode in this competition on 22nd June at Swindon!

I know and accept there are a lot of complications that have led to this bizarre situation. Typical of British Speedway.

After all but going out of business last season, the Devils have a great opportunity to grab some silverware . It would be rather fitting to win something for us, the long suffering fans.

I dont always agree with our Promotion, but at the very least they DO answer any questions put to them.Sometimes its not what you want to hear, sometimes funny, sometimes deadly serious. No matter what is asked, it is ALWAYS answered. Very refreshing in todays climate.

Of course, I am hoping for a good score from the Devils, the more the merrier before the return on Sunday. Its such a shame (genuine) that there are guests for both sides tonight. Mildenhall have been hit by Mountains withdrawal, and cant get a suitable guest. Matt Bates comes in at the last minute, with all due respect, isnt the same points machine that Connor has become. R/R for Halsey. Devils have Liam Carr replacing Boxall, with R/R for Compton. Followed by an SDL meeting too, all for just £10. Bargain!

Feel sorry for the Fen Tigers supporters. Bates and r/r for Mountain and Halsey is pretty awful and will struggle to get 30 points tonight giving no chance of a decent contest on Sunday.

Surprised someone like Jake Knight could not be drafted in as he misses tomorrows action because of the suspension.

Mildenhall much stronger for the Home leg with Mountain returning and Anders Rowe replacing Ruddick ( taken from Fen website)

For The Devils Bailey and Jason Edwards guest at 5 & 6. Devils need a healthy lead from the 1st leg. Got to be looking at a lead of at least 20pts to take to Mildenhall on Sunday.

Well, a 54-36 wins looks convincing enough for the Devils. They looked good on the night and did their jobs, but have come away thinking its a strange scoreline.

In Heat one, Roynon leading by the proverbial mile, crashes just before the finish line, but goes over line for the win.Bates in 2nd laid it down. From my angle opposite the start, I didnt think he had, but referee Reeve awarded him the win.A tad lucky in one respect, but very unlucky in another. Its been reported that he has broken his collarbone, although he did continue on the night to secure 2 more race wins before suffering a tapes exclusion in Ht13.

Roynon: See above

Andrews: Looked very fast and worked hard.

R/R (Compton) 9+3 Paid Max, which is probably more than he would have scored

Atkins: Superb. Probably his best night of the season.

Carr: Excellent guest.

O'Keefe: Steady and picked up points when others made errors.

Walker: Good solid reserve score.

Bates: Solid Ht1, but 2 x exc for 2mins not helping.

R/R;(Halsey) 4+1 easily less than he would have scored.

Jenkins: 2 falls in first 2 rides cost him dearly. Got his act together in the end with some excellent riding. Talented for sure.

Spooner: Out of his depth in the 1-5.

Armstrong: Only came to the party once the track slickened off

Verge: Not on the pace at all,but understand it was his return from injury.

Kemp: Excellent. Apart from one race when he and Andrews seemingly pulled up only to get going again. Red light in crowd apparently.

On an difficult track, a sunny day, not watered enough, although understanable, slickened off by Ht10. The next five races were all gate n go. Had either any of Compton,Mountain or Halsey ridden, the result would have been totally different. All if buts and maybes of course.

I'll take the 18 point lead, but Devils needed more points, they just didnt kill things off in the later races. With all 3 heat leaders out of the return on Sunday, 2 of them Boxall and Roynon are track specialists, will make things very hard.

I understand that Ben Morley guests for Roynon.

Good luck to the Devils on Sunday. They are going to need it.

I fancy mildy to absolutely stuff Plymouth on sunday, they should have won by miles more against a very very weak side

Said in an earlier post that Devils needed at least to win by 20 at home. It will be close on Sunday and much will depend on if Edwards can nick a point or 2, a lot to ask of the young man even though 15 yr old Drew Kemp was flying at Plymouth last night for Mildenhall. Very impressed by Kemp.

Bailey and Morley will be ok for a few pts. Young Atkins should do better than last time but can't see Andrews or Walker doing much. Hope it's A Devils win but don't think 18 is quite enough.

Its disappointing to see that another important end of season NL fixture is going to be influenced by guests and particularly who picks the best unattached reserve.

Should have done the lottery last night. Afraid to say my worst fears came true and

Mildenhall nicked it in a run off. Well done to both sides I bet the atmosphere was cracking. I hope the final was well attended.

As I have said before, the NT is a joke.

Starts at beginning of season with just SIX teams.

The Final is held in the middle of winter with SIX Guests and both teams having R/R ???

Then again this is Speedway,a joke of a sport in this Country. :nono:

Plymouth qualified for this final way back in June. If it had been run then . Plymouth would have had a full 1-7
