Newcastle Doubble Header 22 October

Recommended Posts

Beautiful day here at Newcastle this morning. Sun out and no rain or even forecast. Expect track will be heavy and grippy, but with two meetings it will dry out, and we will get some decent racing in pleasant weather. Pleased with the changes that have been made to the two oppositions, but we unfortunately are missing out on Cookie who attended the BL end of season night last night.

Should be a good occasion especially at £20 for this double header. The club needs everyone to attend today to show there is support for it to continue. Don't not go, and then moan when, or if, we don't open next year.

KEEP NEWCASTLE SPEEDWAY RUNNING BY ATTENDING.

Yes just checked the weather forecast and it will be dry today, I hope so cos me wife had me hanging washing out. It wouldn't dare to rain when she has made the decision to hang out wor washing :nono:

I completely endorse Tsunami's post. Don't give this one a miss, as the promotion will take a financial hit if "fans" stay away and that on top of a very poor season may just make their minds up that they cannot afford to continue next year. Alan, George and the other's deserve a vote of confidence. Also, Newcastle Speedway at Brough Park is in the balance. If we close down it is very unlikely that the council will agree to any future proposals to stage speedway again at this old stadium for a number of reasons. So please turn up at 4pm today the future of our speedway could well depend upon it!:cry:

Like I've said before on here everyone fan should get along tonight to support this meetings, would be great if stay away fans make the effort to get along to this, because let's face it nobody wants it to close down.

Just on a side note is the financial outlay solely down to George and alan now a days.

There are still 3 owners.

I'll be there with most of the usual gang, I, like many others on here fear that if we don't show support then we may well have to find something else to do on a Sunday evening. I also agree that any break in continuity will preclude the re-opening of the team as the close proximity of housing will mean noise will be a major factor. These may be 'meaningless' fixtures, but it's still the spectacle of 4 riders, 4 laps, no brakes and no fear and surely that's the main reason we go!

Obviously I`m not there but the crowd on updates is described as "not great", which is a worry for the future of Newcastle speedway.

i love speedway but ive got to say im not a lover of double headers

the only thing there good for is clearing the fixture back log

not good for riders or promoters and the fans get feed up waiting round and have to pay more

Surely heat 15 for JAMES SARJEANT guesting for Redcar at Newcastle do you agree Jenga[ It would have been 13+2 from 6 if he had not retired in heat 2

As it doesn't count towards his average he's free to fill his boots

So Cook was at Belle Vue for the cup final, appeared to be at the dance last night (Facebook photos) but couldn't ride tonight. Can he be banned from next year's GP? Or can he do what he wants?

i am not too sure about this ,but walking aroung , socialising with team members and riding a bike with no brakes and commitment are two totally different things .

maybe he was tired ? but the score for workington and the score for redcar are two totally different worlds apart .

thats a bit of cheating the workington fans big time . but life goes on and lets see which team takes the gamble in 2018.

we all know he can ride , but why treat the 2017 season as an average fixing mission ?

comets fans backed him when he furst came on a 5.+ average . then it all went downhill . his syarts were shocking and his 1st bend tactics were even more shocking (when he didnt break the tapes)

but a new season awaits and lets hope he can sort out his biggest problem !

Obviously I`m not there but the crowd on updates is described as "not great", which is a worry for the future of Newcastle speedway.

Don't know who reported that, but I and people around me, thought it was about an average crowd for a Sunday single meeting. Not many Worky fans on sight, but some Redcar fans for a change.

Some decent racing on a slick hard track to ensure it got though two meetings. Very noticeable that after the cold descended, the track seemed slippy from cold moisture coming up thorough the track. More falls probably due to that than any other reason. Ludde had a bad tumble going into the second fence, but apparently both his rear chain and the primary chain snapped at the same time and brought him down. Worky not at the races with their weak team, but the Redcar meeting had some good races which kept it interesting. With Robert having his big off in heat 10, the worry was Redcar would come back to grab the bonus point they needed to jump a place in the final league table. The 5-1 in heat 13 steadied the scoring and a 7 point win was achieved.

The wait now is to see whether the gate justifies the return of speedway next year. Some of the more vocal critical fans were not there so if we don't run next year, they can look in the mirror to see who to blame for the decision. A decent night but bloody cold for a double header. Why cant we run speedway as a summer sport.

I think from what George said its trying to find a new sponsor that's critical to whether we race or not

Many thanks to Alan and Sapphire Engineering ... les hope we can new sponsor

Judging by the lack of information on this meeting I'll have to take it that it was as poor as the scoreline would suggest?

What I thought would happen, waiting around too long for the meeting to be arranged, little value to either side, riders going awol, under performing guests, it kinda sells itself for what it was?

Probably be seen as the penultimate nail in the lid of the coffin of Workington Speedway, disappointing to say the least? :(
