Scb And The Bspa

LOOKS like the BSPA are having their wings clipped by the SCB. Published today...

THE Speedway Control Bureau have issued the following statement:

A Judicial Inquiry was held in Rugby on Tuesday 7th November 2017 to establish and consider the matter of Mr Ged Rathbone and Mr Rob Godfrey both of the BSPA, in the release of Jack Holder to compete in a Polish League event against the rules of both the Speedway Control Bureau and the International Speedway League Bureau.

1) The panel on behalf of the SCB investigated the public statement by Mr Rathbone that Mr Godfrey had advised him to accept a payment for releasing Jack Holder to ride in Poland, when Mr Holder was contracted to ride for Peterborough.

The findings of this investigation was no corroborating evidence or witness statements to confirm that this was factual.

2) The panel were also requested to investigate if Mr Godfrey advised Mr Rathbone if he released Jack Holder, he should expect to incur a fine from the SCB at a level substantially less than the payment Mr Rathbone received from the Polish Club.

The findings of this investigation was that both parties admitted that a discussion regards the level of fine had taken place.

The panel was of the opinion that the BSPA has now taken to itself too much power, and considers that the SCB should be the only body to ensure the rules are upheld.

Decisions taken in this matter were not in the best interest of the sport.

The panel also recommended no further action taken against Mr Rathbone, but the advice given by Mr Godfrey was both ill chosen and in Breach of Speedway Regulation 3.2.7.

Mr Godfrey will now be requested to attend a SCB Court Hearing.

What is needed above all is clarity, we should know exactly what will happen when rules are broken. From what I've read about this particular case, is that both parties weren't clear as to how to proceed, either that or they aren't revealing all the facts. Brown envelopes seem to have added yet another nail to British Speedway's coffin, there is great need for transparency.

Polish soeedway has their league structure and rules sorted ,teams are sorted and there is a buzz about who has signed for who , teams have released their new team race suits and new merchandice for fans and pretty much everything is in place for next season , in Britain we have no idea how many leagues or teams or rules ,anything and they are still sqaubling between themselves about who said what to who from this season .,ask people , they really have all but give up on british speedway

I couldn't disagree with any of that Dean but this whole sorry saga was started by a Polish club using it's financial muscle to do whatever it likes.

Difference Poland finished their season a lot earlier than we did. We were still riding upto the last day of October, when did the Polish Leagues finish ?

Isn't that what any business would do, I wonder if any promoter would run their own business in the way speedway is run.

Comes down to better organisation Dave

Thought it was all because one promoter didn't have the plumbs to say no.

I noticed that. Could it be some are not happy about the SCB verdict and do not want the BSPA promoting it?

'Self Policing' often means 'No Policing'....

Maybe the SCB will now start to bring integrity and credibility to the Sport rather than stand idly by and watch the BSPA often bring neither...?

Let's hope...

Well to be fair Jonathan thats a given, now what member of the BSPA MC doesnt like the content of the statement.

Maybe the SCB now will make its own rules and enforce them correctly and properly instead of letting the BSPA walk all over them.

Getting rid of the BSPA members on the SCB would be good starting point.
