George White rip

Ex-Swindon star and world finalist George White passed away on Friday aged 86.

Very sorry to hear that. He was in England's first WTC team in 1960.

I remember there was talk of him making a comeback during the early seventies...had a feeling that he had a practice spin in the car park?

I think he had practiced in 1973  and he was going to try a comeback in a one off four team tournament to see how he went.That meeting fell foul to the weather so nothing ever materialised.

Bought my first motorcycle from George Whites on Manchester Road back in the 70's, nice bloke.

Whoever wrote the obituary for the Swindon Speedway website has forgotten that he rode in the 1957 Wembley final.

George (Chalky) White reached two World Final's both at Wembley in 1957 and 1959 a real Swindon Legend RIP.

There was talk of George coming back in 1965-wish he had would have loved to see him ride-there was similar talk about Ian Williams coming back for Newport
