I took it from the Complete History of the British League book edited by Peter Oakes.

Hi thanks for all the responses however i do have a conflict of answers for 1986 as i was told Hans Nielsen won it? Also was it held in 1987?

Once again, quoting from the Complete History of the British League book, 1986 result was Jan O first, Kelvin Tatum second and Hans NIelsen third. No results reported for 1987.

1986,   1st Hans Nielsen,  2nd Kelvin Tatum,  3rd Jan O. Pedersen,  4th Paul Thorp

There was no meeting in 1987

Those confused by the 1986 winner may have been confused by the unusal way of running the final.

The 4 top scorers competed over 2 final races, with the combined totals used to find the winner.

The races finished:

race 1:      Tatum 3,  Nielsen 2, Thorp 1, Pedersen 0

race2:      Nielsen 3, Pedersen 2, Thorp 1, Tatum 0

So the combined result was:        Nielsen 5, Tatum 3, Pedersen 2, Thorp 2.

Pedersen then beat Thorp in a further run-off for 3rd place.

Wow thanks for the clarification that's excellent :)

I think I went to all the Coalite Classics, so I probably have the programmes and results of all the others too.
