00000 1,279 Posted February 18, 2018 I think speedway riders from outside the EU need a Tier-2 visa. It seems they are being rationed. It could be bad for speedway. Can't see a rider getting a visa before a doctor. Gordon Pairman 457 Posted February 18, 2018 Speedway riders come in on Tier 2 (sportsperson) or Tier 5 (temporary worker) visas which, so far, don’t seem to be impacted by the restrictions described in the article.
False dawn 2,294 Posted February 18, 2018 It seems weird that we're trying hard to negotiate the end of free movement of folks within the EU and a brexited Britain and at the same time making it difficult for riders to compete here from countries we were only too happy to have in our "national team" not so very long ago riding with a Union Flag on their chests. [Did I invent a new word? Brexited] The whole clamping down on immigration isn't just about Brexit. Immigration laws were toughened in this country about 5 years ago - long before Brexit. at that time it was solely about countries from outside the EU. A couple of years back, the BSPA had to go to London to be told that they were violating immigration laws with their sponsoring of work permits and strict guidelines were laid out. These have had to be followed since then, and have caused a bit of a fuss with riders now finding it hard to get work permits - the American that Edinburgh wanted to sign being a recent case.
