There IS no argument about who the better second place team is - the results and points scored prove it. The "argument" hinges upon the speedway authorities' adoption of a convoluted mathematical formula, defying all logic and common sense, to arrive at the wrong decision.

My Grandads string vests had less holes in than your arguement Its the first time Ive seen a simple average described as "a convoluted mathmatical formula" The plus/minus wonder formula though allows the team in the bigger group to have more chance to gain points but is oh so much fairer and simpler 1

Your suggestion that it's a "simple average" is mistaken; it's a WEIGHTED AVERAGE (ask your maths teacher), which means that the calculation is flawed inasmuch as it favours one party over the others. In any sport other than speedway, this would be seen as a breach of the natural laws of the game.

szkocjasid 2,843 Posted June 22, 2018 My biggest issue is by saying best 2nd place team, what does that mean? Should have specifically announced it as points per match or points difference etc. Alternatively why not just have a 3 team, 3 leg final!
OldRacer 84 Posted June 22, 2018 I don't spend much time in the championship forum so i have only just caught up with this thread. It is comedy gold. Obviously a wind up because no one is that stupid in real life, but a great effort. Well done.

Obviously a wind up because no one is that stupid in real life, but a great effort. Well done. Mathematics must work differently in California - presumably the sun gets to your head. Just for the record, the Speedway Control Bureau set out the rules of the Championship Shield at the start of the season. They agreed that a home win would be worth three league points, an away win by between 1 and 6 points would be worth 3 league points and an away win by 7 points or more would be worth 4 league points. We have a situation where two teams have won all their home matches and have each won one match away. One of the teams has picked up 3 away points and the other team has picked up 4. Given the importance that the Speedway Control Bureau has placed on winning by 7 points or more (to the extent of awarding it an extra league point), wouldn't common sense dictate that the team that has the bigger away win should qualify to the next stage? But no, the Speedway Control Bureau - in its wisdom - says that the team with the lesser away victory should be awarded the spoils. Comedy gold it might be, but just who are the jokers? Paulco 7,047 Posted June 23, 2018 Three legged final along the lines of the Craven Shield should have been the way to go . Why does speedway never take the obvious and easiest way ?

jenga 2,998 Posted June 23, 2018 so why do the updaters and other posters mention bends 3 and 4 then ? and when is the back straight not the back straight , only when you are standing on the back straight and looking over to the home straight , that becomes the back straight ? ? ?

I only bring it up as 4thbender doesnt believe in convoluted mathmatical formulae - surely splitting what is clearly only 1 flowing bend at each end of the track doesnt fit with that.....
