00000 1,279 Posted June 27, 2018 National League Fours postponed Due to a "a combination of different circumstances" Rye House v Swindon is cancelled - then changed to postponed Due to "unforeseen circumstances" Looks like speedway news to recruit a clairvoyant Any more examples of fans being told such 'information' without the real reasons being revealed?
waytogo28 2,054 Posted June 27, 2018 (edited) The REAL reasons are never revealed at King's Lynn Speedway. Only "those in the know" get to know. On social media, Rye House is still cancelled. Perhaps just a poor choice of words? Edited June 27, 2018 by waytogo28 Additional point made

They are probably having a whip round, the result of which will decide whether it's cancelled or postponed.
Gemini 4,894 Posted June 27, 2018 At least we were told the Coventry v Buxton match was off because of an 'electrical failure'.
cityrebel 2,960 Posted June 27, 2018 The NL fours were probably dumped, because of England playing in the world cup.
OldHawk 71 Posted June 27, 2018 the date of which was known weeks before the cancellation. Dont forget the Benfund debacle (cancelled before the bad weather also due to unforeseen events) plus Stoke cancelling matches because of 'wrong shale' Sounds like British Rail! RIP speedway! Perhaps they used up all their good business sense in their outside interests. One means it's never going to happen now and one means it will be on at a later date, doesn't it? Just in case they needed some assistance. But no doubt it was lowly minion who typed in the notification.
RS50 355 Posted June 27, 2018 Did we ever get the official statement about why Buxton"s match on 10 June was postponed?

No other meaning can be construed. Now, nearly 24 hours after the first brief announcement there has been no explanation. The club's website has been adjusted to say postponed. However - The club's Twitter still says the meeting has been cancelled. The club's Facebook says the meeting has been cancelled. So that's 2-1 in favour of cancellation over postponed. These matches were postponed due to the weather. Cancelled means that the event will not take place in the future. Just check with any decent dictionary. iris123 20,849 Posted June 27, 2018 Not sure about what is decent, but looking on the net one of the synonyms is ‘postpone’....words change through history and I guess when used often enough that meaning becomes part of the language.

In plain English, cancelled means a match will NEVER take place. There is no doubt whatsoever about the meaning...when you are writing UK English. Dry Hose have either (a) told the truth or (b) cocked up big time. If it was (b) they surely would have removed the incorrect social media posts and re-posted correct information. They have plenty of time to do it. No ifs or buts, CANCELLED means it will NEVER take place - EVER. End of.
