Bagpuss 10,778 Posted July 8, 2018 Look forward to hearing the other side of the story and the reasons why Flint is ineligible.

What makes a rider who's been registered and approved by the BSPA suddenly inelligible? Where's the dirty trick in that? I was told by a Cradley fan when the Brummies dropped down to the NL to watch out for Buxton's shenanigans. It seems to be their modus operandi, whoever the opposition is. Anyway, a huge away win, all 15 race winners and all the points in the bag. Karma.

Buxton might possibly have got a heat winner if he'd been riding for them.
screm 8,053 Posted July 8, 2018 Big fuss over very little as Birmingham were always going to be far to strong for Buxton with or without Gary Flint.

They should have been looking to give track time to an upcoming teenager who needs it, not trying to fiddle an ineligible experienced journeyman back in from a bygone era, in the hope of adding even more points to an already easy win.

But as Birmingham said in their press release, they had contacted a lot of young riders who were all unavailable to ride so Gary joked about stepping in and then decided to actually do so as it would be a fantastic experience for him to ride with his son in the same team. Nice lad, he said he twisted his knee in a fall, I think avoiding a rider falling in front of him. He was prepared to go out for his last ride but it was decided it would be better if Sheldon rode instead, as he didn't want to potentially aggravate it more. Hope he has a good rest of the season, when he gets the chance. On Sheldon, only seen him very briefly in the Bulls vs Belle Vue meetings before. To win your first race in the NL must have been a great thrill. He looked a lot smoother than a lot of the riders on a difficult track, especially the 1st and 2nd bends. The referee kindly explained the situation about Gary Flint. Buxton did complain but the decision was made by the BSPA (I think he said Neil Vatcher but with the raceway in the back ground and the track grading going on, it was difficult hear). One thing he couldn't explain was his decision to put all 4 riders back in the first race, when Ben Wilson fell on his own on bend 2, with no one remotely near him. Hopefully we can secure the win against Cradley to get to the final.
Argos 262 Posted July 8, 2018 So basically the Ref said Lawrence Rogers is a liar when he said he had written confirmation off the BSPA saying Mr Flint senior could ride ?

I think he said he first heard of it at 10.20 this morning, when it was referred to the BSPA. The BSPA then made the decision.
Jayne 312 Posted July 8, 2018 So where is this written confirmation then? If Laurence Rogers had it he would have produced it, he was asked to, but declined, and said he would do it later. Not sure when later is but we are all still waiting.

cinderfella 865 Posted July 8, 2018 Quote from Buxton team manager after the meeting " James (Cockle) struggled early on and got caught out by the track a couple of times, but as the meeting went on a gained in confidence and showed what he can do but after three months off the bike completely it was always going to be a hard afternoon for him!" So just what the hell did they expect from Gary Flint after being off a bike for 11 years? Poor show Buxton and not in the spirit of the sport when someone offers to come out of retirement to ensure a team has 7 riders and fans aren't short changed
