Leicester v Kings Lynn Monday July 16th

Recommended Posts

Watching a recording of the Leicester v Poole mtg and caught this lovely quote from Numpty Pearson.

"and at the National Speedway Stadium the Aces have won. They lead Belle Vue by 46 to 32 with two races to go."

First and second in the same meeting then... ;-)

Ok the Tv meeting was called off but that’s speedway could have been the other way round and Leicester got rained off then what would you have said ? We all make choices in life mine and others was to watch the tv meeting what’s the problem with that ? Any way congratulations to the Stars a great win and hopefully BT will switch there planned meeting to KL v Poole next Monday .

Poor meeting with Lions being embarrassed.

Doubt Kurtz will feature again and bjerre is woeful as a number 1. Came in on nearly 8.5 yet is riding to 6.4.

Problem I see it is that we are so weak at reserve and weak at 1 that we can't necessarily improve 1 without weakening or at least improving the other.

KP's form and erratic rides are a concern and whilst JS looks competitive (unlike Kurtz) he continues to hurt his and the teams chances with alarming regularity.

The meeting was all very predictable and with very little to cheer on an evening with kids going free.

Absolutely fed up with going home covered in dust. Throughout the season the track has been too dry but on occasions the track has been watered during meetings.  Last night was appalling. In Heat 15 you we still waving  the dust away from the previous lap when they were round again. The lack of dirt, water and general track preparation this season has been shocking.

I bust a gut and get there for 7.25 and have tried week in week out to support the efforts in at least  trying to build a strong team but until they can find the water tap again, my son and I will be giving it a swerve.

What are the arrangements with water? Obviously nothing available from the drainage tanks for a long time, so I am guessing it has to come from metered supply, which is probably "owned" by the landlord and in that case the Leicester promotion would pay him per useage. But then you are into guessing how much the landlord is charging.

I don’t think there was anything wrong with the track last night hence the track record being broken 3 times the racing was very fast and Kings Lynn riders loved it.

It was the poor performance of some of the Lions riders that was the problem you really cannot have your No1 scoring 5 at home on regular basis,Kurtz can only ride Leicester when it’s slick and KP has lost his confidence and looks dangerous now.

i can foresee some changes before Monday depending on averages but a very difficult game as trying to find riders is problematic.

If you looked before the meeting you could see the track was well watered and now has quite a bit more dirt on it with more added each week. With regards to watering during the meeting it can only be done if both teams agree and referee says ok which often they don’t as they have their agenda to get meetings completed as quickly as possible. As seen at all tracks to water it you need to give it an extensive grading as can’t water the concrete and at this time of the year it dries out so fast. As far as I am aware at present there is no trouble with sourcing water at Leicester

You won't finish bottom. You are in fact 3rd when it comes to away points gained less home points lost. Another away point or points are a possibility tomorrow as well.

I did say this might happen. King's Lynn are a good team who had several track specialists who certainly showed the Leicester riders how to ride their own track.

I decided to leave my Pizza and Beer in the fridge and did pop along to this one and I thought it was one of the better meetings of the season. A fast track does not necessarily mean an entertaining track and the watering does remain a problem... I doubt what you say about the agreement for watering is true, I go to a lot of tracks where the watering of the track is not an issue so why would everybody object to just the Leicester track being watered?

Because of the slick inside and deep outside, maybe if they graded the material down onto the inside they could water more?

or just start watering it before the inside goes too slick

Maybe it suits both types of riders? Those that like a slick track can stick to the inside line and those that like it deeper the outside? Looking forward to watching Scott Nicholls and Robbo. :)

I think we might see a more grippy track from now on.

By the way, you must be very disappointed that KK was not also signed?

But they can't guarantee they will be racing inside or outside from the start unless they gate, Huggy was the best track curator ever and he always prepared Lynn with the same grip across the track, that's the benchmark imo.

1] Good. Perhaps no more blue groove then? Although must admit the track is improving every week since the new curator took over.

2]  Oh yes. :o As disappointed as I was when I used to watch Finn Jensen score 3-0-3-0.

Trees..................

Not necessarily. If they are just following the leader at Leicester a rider can still choose whether to toddle round on the inside line or the outside.

Strange place Leicester,   having been there half a dozen times, it still difficult to offer an opinion of the track.    I've seen many  races won from the gate,  but  I've also seen some terrific wins from the back.  I was of the impression if you wanted it enough, you could find away past,  but then I've seen races where the rider behind  has given his all and cant find a way by.   Strange track...

The biggest difference I've noticed  on my visits is the state of the track,  some times there's loads of dirt, whereas other times there's hardly any at all.   Some days it very wet and others its as dusty as hell.   There never seem to be any normality in the preparation.    Must be very difficult for their own riders to set their bike up not knowing what the track will be like.

Them wonderful days we used to go to Blackbird Road seem a million miles away.     Such a brilliant race track that every rider loved to race.     What the sport would give to still have those racetracks today...

Indeed! Memories overflow from the Blackbird Rd days, high up on the back straight. So why didn't David Helmsley build a track more like that? Had every opportunity to.
