Strong rumours of only two leagues next season, minus the NL!

More likely effectively minus the Premiership in reality but the name may remain

We need a national league, and considering you have teams like IOW running almost every week even if its a wacky formatted challenge meeting which on paper shouldn't draw fans but must do because they are still in business, must mean its a very viable league if the costs are kept sensible.

Speaking of which the loss of Arena Essex will also mean the loss of the Hagon shocks training facility there.

The trouble is see though with only having a two league structure is that the promoters will end up trying to chase away what few top riders we still have, they will make it almost for the likes Jason Doyle to carry on riding over here, we need more riders not less.

The reality is, the sport can't afford the top riders anymore. I can see some sort of training league, like the SDL, for the smaller clubs that can't compete financially. Similar to what Kent have been running at Iwade this season.

The problem is, Arena got a bad reputation for having a fenceless track in the 1980's, that has never gone away.

What was wrong with a fenceless track?

Maybe because it was something totally different and unconventional at the time it also meant that referees had an extra workload with the possibility of rider's taking both wheels onto tarmac track and trying to get away with it hoping it would go un-noticed. Other than that no problems for me.  Any news on the Lakeside  v Peterborough rearranged fixture date yet .

How many NL teams want to upgrade their product to lose money though,or will it be a lot of Championship Teams watering down their product to cut their losses.More likely the latter if that is what is the plan.

Probably Arena was at its trickiest when it was fenceless, it was the safest track around but not always the easiest to do well on, it’s amazing to think looking back how well Steve Lawson always did when he visited and now we have his son riding for us and is one of the most popular riders ever to wear the crossed Hammers, you wonder if it’s in his families genes.

I won a sidecar meeting on the fenceless track in 1988. I got barged wide in bend 1/2 and did half the back straight on the outside track.

Happy days

Definitely the latter. The championship could do with blooding a few more British youngsters.

They might have a job on their persuading Teams to move up given the shambles of FRN this year and best night for racing for a lot of clubs.

The Hagon Shocks academy went two years ago.

Did it? They either kept that quiet or I must have missed it.
