Peterborough v Ipswich Sunday 5th August

Recommended Posts

Ronni rode with his weight further back so his front wheel was hardly touching the track down the straights. But soon as you hit a rut or unexpected grip you take off and become a passenger.

I was there that night and I understand why Ben took revenge. It was a highly competitive meeting with frank ebdon favouring the panthers and it all ending up in court with the judge ruling in Ipswich’s favour and overturning the result

I was there too and there was no possible excuse for Howe's action. If Jeremy Doncaster had reacted it would have been understandable if not excusable. It was nothing to do with Howe. Fortunately he seemed to disappear off the scene shortly after and good riddance! There's no place for such stupid behaviour in an already dangerous sport.

As did Ronni.

Howe retired through injury , he was one of the most exciting riders I have seen around Newport when he was in the mood.

Ben had an insane amount of natural talent and was a super quick rider

What he lacked was discipline and application and perhaps the self belief

Wonderful to watch in full flow but equally frustrating when it wasnt going so well

He was brilliant at foxhall too when there was plenty of dirt.  Whilst I don’t agree with Ben’s actions he witnessed pedersens spear of Jeremy as he was right behind him at the time of the accident.

Definitely my son's favourite rider.

Just in case it's been missed, and as he rode for both clubs

Dave Gooderham passed away recently, after suffering a stroke

Too young to have any significant memories of him but one of the long list of local riders that made the club at ipswich what it was as it established itself

Perhaps overshadowed by those higher profile stars but still every bit a part of a team - the type of rider that was (and still is) vital to making speedway work

That's just terrible news. Dave was one of the nicest guys i ever met, and i will never forget all the help he gave me when i started riding. RIP dear friend

From the sounds of things Heeps wipes out Mcdonalds most weeks

I've seen him a couple of times in a certain bakery chain near Ipswich  Hospital which specialises in sausage rolls and whose name is very similar to the first name of an American four time World Champion!

When there was a bit of dirt on the outside at Newport, watching Howe in full flow is up there with the best.

i remember him suffering a nasty injury at Lakeside, someone fell in front of him. He came off and smashed his arm to bits. Made a brief comeback a couple of years later but was never the same rider.

That incident was nothing to do with the court case.

Howe shouldn't have got involved. Doncaster said that he contacted Ronni later to say that it wasn't Ronni's riding, it was the bike lifting that caused it. I agree that Howe should have been thrown out of the meeting, and never allowed to race again

The court case revolved around Lee Lanham who supposedly had retired  midway through the meeting packed his bikes away and was ready to head home , not sure which heat was involved but 3 riders appeared on track and the only other rider that could have rode in that race was Lee Lanham  , the pit gate was shut before the 2 minute time allowance was up believing that there would be no other rider involved, and the race was run with3 riders . Ipswich lost the tie but decided to make a case that they were denied the chance to bring out Lee Lanham  in the particular race .       Pure gamesmanship by John Louis   and  I will never forgive him for that. Great rider but  his ethics as a promoter left a lot to be desired
