Adding a 1 week extension onto the cut-off date'

Recommended Posts

With less than 3 weeks to go before the cut-off date,   it is apparent  some teams are not going to fulfil all their fixtures.   With the teams so close in the league , any unplayed match will have significant bearing on the final PO positions.   Surely a weeks extension would be more acceptable recipe than teams winning by default.   An extra week would offer  2 extra dates for those teams struggling to complete their schedule.

Would adding another week create much of a problem ??    Probably, it wouldn't fit with the TV schedule,  but adding an extra week to the contract could benefit everybody.  The league could fit in the PO semi's  and Final in a 2 week windows, still leaving ample time before the season finishes..

We at Lynn have waited 50 odd years to win the coveted crown. This year we are again in contention for those play-off places.  It would be a shame if we lose out because of foul weather cancellations,  poor fixture planning and them dreaded FRNs....

Be interesting to hear other posters views....

I guess it depends on what team it would benefit as to whether it is extended

Totally and utterly agree, those in charge wl be cutting off their noses to spite their faces if they don't do this, speedway is a sport governed by the weather (and 100 other anomalies, one of the largest being lack of fans, people who WILL turn out for these big, exciting meetings at this sharp end of the season), BTSport know this so will have to understand!

We have had a long dry summer. No reason to extend at all. Clubs could have planned better to fit fixtures in gefore panicking as time ran out. Think back to all those weeks when no fixtures were run.

The playoff dates should not be moved imo. Clubs should simply plan their fixtures better.

would you be saying the same thing if it affected our club i doubt it :nono:

I can't see it being extended, BT would say no tv meetings again if you can't keep to the schedule especially as weather cannot be held up as a factor given the summer we have had.

Absolutely spot on - a 7 team league there is no reason what so ever no excuses that clubs couldn’t complete fixtures on time a cut off extension shouldn’t be allowed - as you say hot dry summer and weeks with no fixtures .

Exactly what happened to all those dates that were pencilled in for Rye House meetings. The only meeting affected seems to be one that was postponed in mid july. How long do you need to arrange one meeting.

no, we shouldn't move the dates, with the best summers in a long time there is no excuse not to get your fixtures in in a timely manner...

it all boils down to poor fixture planning, the Football World Cup is in the calendar every 4 years, the dates have been known long before the BSPA generated their fixtures for 2018 so to cancel matches just because the football would affect the gates is poor planning.

Get on with it.

Belle Vue required an extension many years ago, it was a no then so it’s a no now, as all teams should be treated the same - shouldn’t they?

If a fixture isn't fulfilled by the home team......through no fault of the opposition.....are the league points awarded ?

I would say the club should have planned better. No excuse this year to not have completed the fixtures on time. The weathers been fine. We are not overloaded with fixtures. There’s not been enough for gods sake!

For those that fail to complete, tough!

No points are awarded to either club.

The fixed race nights should never have been implemented in a world cup year. It's nothing new for speedway fixtures to be cancelled due to the football. Poor planning in my opinion.

May be that needs addressing?

Shame for the 'away' team to miss out on a play off spot through no fault of their own?
