Adding a 1 week extension onto the cut-off date'

Recommended Posts

All this talk next season of 'one big league' will be an embarresment when half the fixtures aren't run. I know the Easter period was a right off because of the snow and aftermath, but with the summer we have had there is no excuse at all. Fixed race nights should only have helped the cause for rider availability so it is an absolute joke to be scrambling to fit fixtures in right now before the cut off.

There has been loads of times when nobody has ridden though. Fixed race nights makes it much easy for planning as there is no need to check rider availability.

To  give people an understanding of our fixture congestion , tonight is our designated race night,  yet there is  only 1 fixture. ( Somerset v Belle Vue)…

Kings Lynn, Poole, Leicester, Wolves and Swindon are not riding because of  their riders availability.    Tomorrow  Swindon play Belle Vue  but this typifies the problems  that was created when the BSPA voted to have FRN on a Wednesday.   .

The season needs to start by March 1st. Run the Ben Fund meeting on that day every year then every team has fixtures by March 2nd. September 15th the cut off for league fixtures. This should be rigid, never altered.

From March 2nd > May 31st every club must have 1 home fixture a fortnight minimum scheduled.

From June 1st > August 31st every club must have a home fixture schedule weekly. This includes leaving dates open for rain-offs on "off race nights".

There is absolutely NO excuse for running out of dates and needing double headers.

All rider's should be contracted and available to race British Premiership Speedway every Monday and/or Wednesday, (possibly Thursday and/or Friday in 2019).

If away teams do not have a fixture planned on an available rescheduled date by the home team the date CANNOT be refused by the away team.

People blame fixed race night's for the problem but the issue is with fixture planning and the rider's the clubs have employed. We've had this problem year on year, long before fixed race night's even existed. Fixed race night's ain't the problem, Sweden and Poland manage to get it sorted.

...but some of those teams rode at home on Monday and don 't have a problem fitting their remaining home fixtures in!!

It's only King's Lynn that's playing up with 5 remaining home fixtures. Somerset have 5 remaining also which they have sorted apart from one. Guess which club is holding that situation up? No prizes for the correct answer  Every other Premiership team have 3 or less home fixtures left so no problems for them.

I'm fully expecting Wednesday 5th September to also be a double header for King's Lynn again Leicester.

Simple...if a rider wishes to compete in Sweden, Poland, Denmark, or anywhere you care to name, let them. Fine, off you go.

If you are a top level rider and wish to compete in this country's second division....fine, off you go.

But, in both cases you wouldn't ride for me in the top league.

If you sign for my club, our interests come first.

Terry Russell said something similar in the Speedway Star. I don't always agree with what he says/does but on this point he was bang on.

If you are an Aussie rider, don't expect a UK club to pay for you to come to Britain and then sign for a Polish club.

Oh, dear rider: can't make a living? Well slope off to Poland and/or Sweden (good luck with that) or get a job and ride speedway part time, like most riders did when the sport was great.

Let British speedway see what it has got in terms of riders come January 1, 2019 and go from there.

Totally fed up with riders dictating.

Agreed - the problem is nothing to do with fixed race nights as it happens every year. Last year for instance Rye House went weeks without meetings and then ran a third of their home meetings in 8 days just to squeeze them in by the deadline!

I couldn't agree more. The rubbish weather in Oct must affect the play off crowds. If the final was the 1st week of Sep then there is a much better chance of better weather.

Speedway should run from Mid April to mid September, then the play off's and done and dusted.

I agree riders are dictating the sport, but Promotions don't seem to want to come together to sort it out season after season.Self interest rules.

Perhaps if we had stuck to Monday and Thursday this problem may not have arisen ?

I completely agree with this post, unfortunately, as long as you have people like the beast from the east “in charge” of uk speedway things will NOT change..

The only riders currently effected by Wednesdays are Danish riders, who don't ride every week anyway. If the Thursday night went ahead as planned with the ridiculous idea of Thursday Championship clubs riding and taking priority there would be an even bigger problem. As I've said before, a 2nd division should never take priority over the top division. It's absolute criminal that after last night Belle Vue winning at Somerset they now go to Swindon without Craig Cook who is riding for Glasgow.
