Ben is most welcome at B'ham as ZW's replacement ?

But you can't fit him in yet until the 01st July. Personally I wouldn't touch him with the proverbial bargepole. Too much outside garbage attached. There can't be many riders given a testimonial then sacked a little over two month later.

As its only a challenge match each side has been allowed a rider from the Championship, Todd Kurtz guests for the Somerset team.

Don't guests need to be declared in a 1-7 of another team ?

With too many stupid rules. Try to explain the rules to new people to the sport. Should be easy to understand but they are not.

But the point being made was that a guest had to be in another teams 1 to 7. That's sensible, as if it wasn't, a team could bring in say a former Premier rider and then that would be be clamped down on and the existing rule installed to stop it happening again. Rules usually have a good reason behind them. Why does every rule have to be explained to new people in the sport anyway. It tends to be just passing on peoples prejudices.

Those are the normal rules but as its a challenge any man or his dog could ride (with the correct licences of course). Im guessing running as a "Championship" level challenge allowed for the non brits to take part despite the meeting standard being far from CL level.

It was just a generalisation. Some new people might want some rules explaining but not all. It was a random comment by me not really having a direct bearing at all with a guest being in some other teams 1-7. Just me being sick of rule changes every year.

Yes.So true. How did they manage that? Obviously other things happening here. Obviously not open for discussion when they are personal to Ben.

If they ask yes, but so many fans feel it is necessary to unload their prejudices at the earliest opportunity. Take someone to a football game you don't start talking about 2nd and 3rd phases in an offside situation do you. Or about a player playing for one of the clubs, who belongs to another club, but he is on loan.

Maybe so Dave,,, but I did try to explain to a friend how, a rider from a different club could guest in a cup tie for both teams over two legs, (Newcastle v Glasgow, Ricky Wells).

Imagine Shearer playing for Toon on a Saturday, then playing for the Macems in a midweek Milk Cup tie ? ;)

Yes, but in speedway there is a shortage of riders so guests are necessary. The fans that complain about guests would be the first fans to complain, and stop going, when a NL junior replaces their match winner number 1 for that meeting. At least with guests the teams can meet on a comparative basis instead of being under strength. Football can afford to have reserves who sit on the bench awaiting their chance.

We had similar fiasco a couple of seasons ago, when our No.1 was to be replaced by a said junior, but then it rained in Poland so we were allowed a facility (r/r I think),,, try explaining that one, lol.
