Klindt, Starke & Bach were poor, although Bach at least tried hard. Cracking meeting , with the highlight surely Campton's astonishing pass of Garrity & Manzares in heat 12. He came from nowhere to take them both on the inside with a remarkable turn of speed and its definitely one of the best moves I have seen anywhere this season.

Scorpions top four better than Monarchs sadly for us.
Albert 304 Posted October 21, 2018 Great entertainment... as said by HT, some cracking racing... This on a well prepared, if a little slicker than normal ewr. Jensen again showing his liking to the track, he's been quite outstanding on his visits this year. Mason Campton too was easily Comets second best rider, that heat 12 win was pretty special, what a great race. The other Comets were on the pace but generally got beat up on first two turns. For Scunny, the combo of Garrity and Allen were superb... 5-1's in each of their three rides together. Decent guest in Wells, who along with Nielsen, Worrall and Manzares all put good solid scores on the board. Danny Phillips, to his credit, tried hard with no reward. So 18 point lead... still all to play for.

On another note, that pass by Campton was simply outstanding! Scunny certainly looked up for it and fully deserve their lead. Jensen was on top form and I expect the Comets to be a completely different beast on Thursday. Btw Jorgensen will be the Scorpions’ guest
Guest WTF1 Posted October 21, 2018 Excellent meeting and a large crowd, all the Scunny riders except Phillips who was way off the pace again contributed in building an 18 point lead but will it be enough, surely Klindt who if he doesn't make the gate is useless and Bach who did at least try can't score as bad at home ,Jensen was brilliant and Campton had his moments especially in heat 12, superb pass, Starke terrible guest and 5 rides? wtf. should be a good 2nd leg, wish Workington was nearer. lucifer sam 3,953 Posted October 22, 2018 What a terrific night of speedway. That was simply top drawer. Both sides battling away and Scorpions ended with a 18-point lead, which sets up the second leg very nicely. But just hope it’s as good as advert for speedway as the first leg.
June 203 Posted October 22, 2018 Not a lot can be said about this meeting as its already been said. A brilliant meeting! All our lads appeared up for it. A massive well done, that 18pt lead ….VERY HANDY! Just hope its enough.....Scorps you can only do your best now. Hopefully you can bring the cup home to Scunny….. Good luck for Thursday. montie 1,273 Posted October 22, 2018 Another super meeting and a big crowd to watch it,good eoofrt from both sets of riders and maybe the score flatters Scunny a little as the racing was very close 18pts should be enough but Worky are a fine team at home and is set up nicely for the return leg, should also give the comets healthy crowd with everything to play for great advert for the sport in General
SteelShoe 500 Posted October 22, 2018 The Scorpions have put themselves in a strong position for the second leg, i would be happy with an 18 point lead no doubt. The Comets have it all to do. We could count ourselves a little unfortunate not to have had a point or too more on the board last night without taking anything away from the Scorpions. Paul Starke may have scored a few more points if his starting had been better but it was poor on the night, 5 points from him would have been more than acceptable. Rasser was superb on the night and has really shown great determination in the quest to win the club its first seven man silverware. Mason Campton has improved greatly with more racing during the second half of the season and will have a huge part to play in the 2nd leg. His win in heat 12 following a second hard move in the race from Garrity after already stuffing Nicolai up down the back straight was superb and a fitting response. Rene had what will have have been a very frustrating night for him, he tried his hardest from a position of not making very good starts but just seemed to lack that bit of speed that would have brought him a few extra points. Nicolai seemed to find himself in the wrong place on more than one occasion and invariably found himself at the back when in traffic. He will have a huge part to play in the 2nd leg and is more than capable of turning last nights form on its head. Young Kyle nearly managed a second place in the reserves race and he will be looking for more at Derwent Park. Seven heat wins wasn't bad from the Comets, it was the 11 non scoring races that hurt us. Jason Garrity and Jake Allen are a formidable 3 and 4 partnership at the EWR and were responsible for 3 of the damaging 5-1's the Comets conceeded. If we can get on top of these two and make big strides into the deficit early then it will be game on and the nerves will be jangling once again. Up the Comets !!
Scorpison 21 Posted October 22, 2018 It has been said so many times already, but that was a brilliant meeting , and just shows what we have missed this season if it had not been for so many long term injuries. So we now go to Workington with a lead of 18 points, before the meeting I would have settled for a lead of 14 points, so this is a small bonus, also riding for us as guest is Jorgy, who usualy rides well around their track, and Josh Auty usually has a lot of poor meetings up there, and must not like their track, so that is another bonus for us. The six riders last night need all the praise that we can give them, and if they put as much in their riding on Thursday we should be ok, so go for it lads and lets have the Cup to look forward to seeing at the start of next seasons opening match. GOOD LUCK AND STAY SAFE GUYS.
Carlislecomet2 304 Posted October 22, 2018 I agree with Scorpison and think the Scorpions have done enough, and to be honest (leaving the fixture fiasco out of this) I think with the injuries they have endured this season the team deserve a bit of success. Before the season started they certainly looked to have one of the strongest line ups. The injury situations now seem to have reversed with us missing both Dan and Ty and the Scorpions looking potentially stronger at DP with Jorgensen in place of Auty who often seems to struggle at our place for some reason. I don't suppose they would consider using Paul Starke instead, just to even it up a tad more. Hopefully it will be another cracking meeting, possibly forming part of a triple or quadruple header the way things are shaping up.
ScunnyDan 335 Posted October 22, 2018 Well, what more can be said.. A fantastic meeting, a real shame it wasn't on BT Sport, but Tapes up videos was there filming it, a must have DVD for any speedway fan, that really was out the top drawer, along with the biggest crowd for speedway at the EWR for some time. Fair play to both sets of riders who put on a show, Scunny didn't have it as easy as we'd have liked although built up a handy lead, I think 20 points and the cup would have been Scunnys, 18 im not so sure. Its still all to race for on Thursday, good luck Scorpions
