Obviously a better deal than Somerset offered !!, and there you have it, a team pleading poverty which proved correct in the end as they withdrew from the league, and yet offering more than Somerset did.  Clubs need to be sensible with their deals, with tracks folding.

Absolutely spot on again.

Rightly or wrongly, Somerset obviously set a limit they were prepared to pay certain riders and on at least 2 occasions that is known of in the public domain were outbid by Redcar and Workington - both of which were wanting a 36.00 points limit as oppose to a higher 40.00+.

The management have said they would prefer not to be in this League ideally but needs must and to allow speedway to continue at Somerset this was what they had to do. Again they have set their financial limits and fair play to sticking to them. People seem to think that Bomber is on silly money but I reckon (don't know for sure) he has probably taken a lower deal that sees him going to get paid promptly for the meetings he races, unlike the situation he encountered at another track last year it seems. i just hope other poverty pleading teams don't follow Workington's demise as hate to see any track close.

Honestly

There was very little difference in the deals offered BWD just wanted to try a different track... he had a short spell at Worky at the start of last season filling in for an injured Mason Campton... he said then that he would like to come back if the opportunity arose... it did and he was good to his word... just backfired slightly with Worky having to "ice" their licence... but you can't blame the guy or your promotion if he wants to try his hand at another track...

Workington outbidding Somerset with money they clearly didn't have is both foolish and idiotic. Work within your means!

You obviously arent aware of the facts and it certainly wasnt a case of Worky outbidding anyone...

All you need to do is look at the Workington team to see it was built to a tight budget also BWD wasn't going to ride in the Championship this year until Worky came in for him...

so , its got nothing to do with the local football team coming over to Derwent park and the football league making them make alterations to the width of the pitch  ( as it does not meet the required min width)  and by doing so encroach about 1/3 of the speedway track on the home and back straight . the reds would have to move from their ground so the place can be flattened  and the new,  all singing, all dancing stadium  could be built . that would leave the speedway team with a totally un acceptable track in which to race on . therefore making the speedway team having to pull out of the league and be fined bucket loads of cash , i do believe . i got this info from a mate in the pub .  hic tic .. .

Whilst I'm really not a fan in the slightest about dropping down a league, the Somerset promotion have done what they believe to be the best course of action to make the sport sustainable.

What should be sending even more alarm bells to all teams in the whole country, is that if Somerset "couldn't" make it pay - a team who owns their own track, car park, bar and catering facilities with no rent to pay - then what chance do the rest of them have?
