Premiership Play-offs 2019

Recommended Posts

Starting the season with 7 teams, can we really have 4 teams qualifying for the play-offs? More teams qualify than don't?! Some sporting credibility could be maintained if only the top 3 qualify, with the team finishing top going straight into the final.

It will still be top 4. While it looks silly to have 4 qualify there is no rhyme or reason for the team that finishes top to miss out on a pay day.

The only solution other than top 4 is to have top 2 in a straight shoot out or not have Play-Offs at all.

Not much of a pay day if the team who finishes top gets knocked out in the semi final stage

Would this work?

Top 2 straight to the final. The points difference over the 2 home and away league meetings between the 2 sides is carried over to the Ultimate Final at a neutral venue. The cap for the points difference is 15 points.

Would it add and would the 2 clubs supporters turn up.

That could be unfair to he team finishing top.They should have the advantage going into the final.So if they were to think down these lines i would say take the difference in the overall league points as opposed to the meetings between the two teams.

My line of thinking is then it makes EVERY league meeting important. You can't just then build a team to win at home, make the Play-Offs etc, away meetings would then be just as important as winning at home. Getting thrashed 60-30 would be unacceptable rather than a "It doesn't matter" meeting.

League winners straight to the final, with pick of home or away in the final 1st leg..  After all the league toppers have done it over a season..2nd and 3rd to battle it out over 2 legs to join them.

So top 3 out of 7.

The remaining teams can have their own knock out comp.

If they are staying with the top 4, how about;

1st vs 2nd and 3rd vs 4th (1 leg). Winner of 1st vs 2nd goes direct to final. Loser at home to winner of 3rd vs 4th to decide the other finalist. Final over 2 legs.

Best idea i think better than 4 from 7 might as well have 7 from 7 :rofl:

No it would be simple to pool all the semi-final & final income & divide on a % basis between the 3 teams. 4 in the p/offs from a 7 team league is nonsense.
