Seriously though, while he did represent Australia for a short while, he did represent New Zealand - legitimately and legally - for the vast majority of his career, and can - and should - be considered a New Zealander.

Just to clarify why Charlie New was also aka Steve Storm. This happening was in the late1950s when speedway riders were supposed to be banned from driving stock cars. Many just adopted an alias and raced under that name. So for Charlie New when he raced on four wheels it was as Steve Storm.

The amusing thing is that much of New's doubling up was at his parent track Coventry where the stadium was involved in promoting both the bike and car racing.
