Sometimes the Tigers are beaten before start (likewise with us down there) rather than just giving it go But with King, Howarth and Proctor … it could be a long night ahead Our 3 heat leaders have been collectively beaten in all 4 matches so far and they need to start providing a platform and leading the team Heart says diamonds 48-42 …. head says 42-48 tigers ………………… key man ….. kyle Howarth …. has been superb around here in the past and get 13+ … but poor last year and may only 9/10 and that could be the difference Missed the shield meeting and got injured in his only ride in the league..... Track looks well ripped up Honestly After Heat 11 I thought it was curtains (sorry Newcastle) as Sheffield were starting to step it up and I had them down to take the match then 3 x 5-1 in the next three heats after the break and the worries were lifted and the fears allayed.... Diamonds had a bit of help when Nicholl forgot to turn his fuel on in Heat 9 and in Heat 10 in what looked like a massive jump by Lambert went unpunished by the Grand Monarch but sometimes you get the rub... But luck had nothing to do with Heats 12, 13 and 14 when the Diamonds stood up to a man and blew away the threat; great drama and fantastic to watch as a diamonds fan... Note to self; don't panic at heat 11 when there are still 4 heats to run, even if the opposition are looking decidedly good... Regards THJ

Barbarian 4 Posted April 14, 2019 A much better meeting than last week with most especially our heat leaders doing well. Phillips still struggling badly.
mauger65 202 Posted April 14, 2019 Well I think George's words had their desired effect ……. a much improved performance by all and a very good victory especially at 34-32 after 12 Max Clegg was the star of the show but good to see our heat leaders outscore theirs - Sheffield a little disappointing as effectively a 4 man team … impressed with Nicols effort Only gripe, DP at 7 …. he just aint quick enough … and why was clegg and him not swapped in heats 8 and 11 - we need to use Max more effectively
Dinosaur 31 Posted April 14, 2019 Phillips is just not upto it full stop he averaged less than a point last season and hasn’t improved in a weaker league. Pretty sure George knows it but daddy’s money buys him a place.

Steve55 340 Posted April 14, 2019 To clarify in heat 9 Nicols bike stopped on the start line when he appeared to pull out the cut - off, he was pushing the bike himself in order to start it when the start marshal decided to give him a hand. Didn't make a blind bit of difference the race was already over for him at that point! Yes it was a shame about heats 9 & 10 for us, we were just coming back into the meeting at that point, but again even if we had got our noses infront after heat 11, heats 12, 13 and 14 would still have killed us off. Have to agree with Topaz, it was freezing again, just like last year, still I suppose it boosts the sales of hot drinks!

Have to agree with Topaz, it was freezing again, just like last year, still I suppose it boosts the sales of hot drinks! Of course we have the ability to order cold weather just for you. A really good competitive meeting, with the end result that we wanted and needed. As I said about our meeting last week, the defeats have not really been about the lower order but down to the three heatleaders. The good thing is a HL is much more likely to return to form than a second string, and they all proved that in meetings riding for their Premier League teams last week. The track was odd with dirt moving off the normal lines, and us having to cover the bald patches especially on the 4th bend. Usually the right lines are where the dirt is, and that is usually around the outside, but Danny King in the 5th heat cut back to a tight inside line and was about 5 yards clear in one corner from former leader Lasse. Some really good riding and passes, and Sheffield put up a good show, especially Danny K and Broc Nicol. Was getting rather tight nearing the end, but that all changed with the DIamonds getting 4 5-1's to Sheffields one 5-1. As expected the riders that lost it for Sheffield were the enigmas Proctor and Howarth. Proctor even shut off before the line in heat 14, meaning Matty, pushing him hard, pipped him on the line. Howarth gave it a go early one, but 2 lasts in his final races says something. He used his head last night and was a better rider for it, but. Obviously it was cold again, but I would say to those that gave this meeting a miss, they missed a treat. It's a great sport in any weather, and with warmer weather forecast for the near future, why would you want to miss out on meetings like last night, with some great races and sterling performance epitomised by the efforts and results of Max Clegg. He's looking like a very good replacement for Ash, who I personally would have had back. The heatleaders are back, we are winning and we are top of the League. What more do you want. 1
DC2 11,150 Posted April 15, 2019 Apparently Newcastle’s odds of winning the title have just gone from 500-1 to 499-1. Always good to see a written off underdog doing well, whether it be the team or Max Clegg.
