British U21 Championship Final: Berwick (April 27th)

Recommended Posts

An excellent line-up for Saturday, perhaps at last revealing the threatened upsurge in British talent.

Lambert a clear favourite, but both semi-finals showed that even with just one lap to go in a final race, things can change dramatically.

Prices are good:  £15 for 16 and over, £11 concessions and kids just a quid.

Bring the family!

Almost a pity that Lambert & Bewley are in this as the rest of the field is wide wide open and with only 4 riders who are NL only one of the strongest line ups for a long while.

There are going to be plenty of shocks along the way and i will have a poke at Kinsley making the podium here.

The standard is getting better each year, mainly thanks to the excellent youth system now in place. Also, the fact that there were two semi-finals this years means there are increasing numbers, reasons to be cheerful.

Lambert, Bewley and Greaves on the podium for me. Looking forward to this one.

I have to say though, just 12 in each semi-final and in one of them, a rider scored a 12 point maximum, yet only qualified as a reserve!  Surely that cannot be right.

It's still an improvement on the one semi final in the recent past

Added attraction is some 125cc races by some of the lads competing in the CFS British Youth Championships. Anyone who has seen NJL racing at Shielfield will tell you that some of the 125 races have been absolute crackers over the years.

The easy way to prevent this is very simple.

ALL race points count for qualification.

Maybe look at the rules for next season?

To be honest I think you either embrace the concept of heats merely being a qualifier for sudden death semis and final or you declare a winner after 20 heats - see no way of mixing and matching. At least this way it brings it in line with the GPs and qualifying so anyone going on in their career at least has some idea of coping with the pressures of the endgame heats.

Big day for Berwick as a town today, the rugby club are in the finals day at Murrayfield, Berwick Rangers face Albion Rovers in a must win game to avoid a relegation playoff and the British Under 21 speedway tonight.
