I thought Newcastle and Arsenal in particular were infamous for charging away fans more and giving tiny allocations of tickets to away fans. Worked security at a lot of Midlands grounds and can honestly say not one of them charged visiting fans less than home fans. Really think the concentration is on people in the Borders and in particular Berwick. Any Edinburgh fans would be considered a welcome bonus but the focus has to be on people locally who used to come and say that they now don't because it is too expensive. Well on this night it's not so hopefully we'll see them again. Twenty is Plenty.. A pressure group formed to have a maximum price for away fans... Many clubs joined in... There was a big hoo ha with prices a few years back but all premier away tickets for everyone is fixed at £30 now. I'm an away season ticket holder and arsenal actually subsidise it further too so we only get charged £26 per game. I havent had next seasons renewal as yet but i'm sure will be the same. The reason supporters are not coming is a lot more than the price, major factor these days is the product itself
HGould 2,200 Posted June 7, 2019 well done Berwick, any Promotion that promotes is to be applauded.
screm 7,991 Posted June 7, 2019 You have to give credit to the Berwick promotion for at least trying to attract either new fans or fans back. £17 is to much for Championship speedway IMO, £15 at a £1 per race is about right, so lets hope this promotion pays the club back at the turnstiles though when this has been tried in the past there has been plenty kids for free but no major up turn in paying adults, but like I say the club deserve credit for trying at least.
mucklechavvych 124 Posted June 7, 2019 Absolutely, I already know plenty lapsed and priced out fans who are going a week on sat

And you dont get anywhere near the same atmosphere, and therefore sense of occasion, without them.. Hence. Football does it too... That’ll go down well with the locals who’ve paid a tenner. Do you seriously believe that offering away fans free admission would be cost effective? There will be enough Monarchs fans there at a tenner a pop. And you can sit next to someone in a plane who has paid more or less than you.... Also. You can be in an hotel room and the person next door can have paid more or less than you... If you want atmosphere at a sports event it is enhanced 1000% by having two sets of fans in attendance.. If they won't come because the costs are too high, admission, travel etc. Then reduce them,... Having atmosphere at a team event is a self fulfilling prophecy, the more you have, the bigger the occasion will feel and the longer it will live in the memory, Having zero atmosphere, like so many speedway meetings have, inspires very few to keep returning.. There should be no restrictions to marketing any event... Thats why innovation exists...

The deal is £10 - adult, concession, Berwick, Edinburgh, Timbuktoo, Third Rock from the Sun. Buy a programme get a free drink. Kids go free and get entry into a draw for a body colour. There's enough Scots happy to travel to Berwick to stock up on cheap booze - well on Saturday week they can pop into Shielfield for a tenner before filling the boot at Asda and taking it back over the border. When a speedway club gets £8 million TV money per meeting perhaps they can spend some of it subsidising away admission - although most promoters would love the idea of £25 being "reasonable". Also heard that a lot of old faces are threatening to return - let's hope they do which would surely encourage the promotion to repeat the exercise on a regular basis.
ruffdiamond 6,115 Posted June 7, 2019 (edited) Its a good idea to pay less, if you book/pay in advance,,, but then it might mean 'you have to go'. Paying less/varying amounts 'on the day' could be an idea,,, all you need to do is, keep your hats n scarves in your pockets, pretend not to know anyone, till you get in and, be an 'away fan' Edited June 7, 2019 by ruffdiamond
