IOW vPlymouth tue 11th june

Recommended Posts

IOW will all need to be firing tonight to reverse their previous result v Plymouth earlier..this season....hoping for a good safe meeting to all the riders ..Wood and Morley on good form at the moment ,,as is Verge..Daly usually good for half a dozen points or so..and two reserves who battle hard,,just leaves Widman to at least look like he wants to race...

Good meeting tonight, close throughout. Ben Wilson was in a class of his own including a superb win off 15 metres. Luckily the island avoided the monsoons on the mainland.

enjoyable match but got v cold and dusty later on.

Couple of unforced errors did for the warriors in 12 and 14, wood well clear in 13 and Stoneman fell, Wilson won re run too.

Plymouths team are well suited to smallbrook tho, they rode well

Strange isn't it that Plymouth are well suited to Smallbrook. Their home track is totally different. You would think the Gladiators might struggle on the Island but not the case. Any thoughts as to why they ride it so well?

In all fairness it was a Wilson masterclass that separated the two sides in the end. Every other rider scored their averages (bar Wood & Andrews who got +3 each so levelled themselves out). Because the Island is so large and requires so much shale it is often quite slick which is similar to Plymouth of recent weeks/months/years and any side based at the Devon track need to be good out the gates, there is an opinion that IOW is alright for non gaters as there are plenty of passing chances which is true to a point but a rider needs to be substantially faster to make a pass stick. Im not quite sure what the Plymouth side holds over IOW (probably belief) but winning on the Island is becoming a regular feature for them and with all great respect they are not the finest team in the league this year.

Plymouth have won 6 out of 7 meetings between the sides at Smallbrook since the Devils dropped back down to the NL :o

Thanks very much and to Islander15 for the 6 out of 7 statistic.

Wilson and Wood were both very quick last night, but ben's excellent use of the wide dirt line gave him the edge. It was an excellent hard fought match with both sides giving their all.

I didnt go, but so good to read good reports from the meeting.

Two evenly matched sides going for it, makes for a good night out.

Well done both teams.

Glorious sunshine in the late morning/afternoon meant constant watering but it got quite cold later and the Warriors blankets were on show yet again. Flaming June!!

It was freezing last saturday at Eastbourne, and again last night. A typical British summer.
