Shockster 400 Posted August 29, 2019 Loved Sam Ermolenko as a rider, but please "No" for more commentary. However, if it's Sam or nobody then Sam will do.

TV is good for general awareness that speedway still exists and for sponsorship both with riders and tracks. Are you aware of the reasons it has been pulled from the schedules? Having looked a couple of the TV listings produced by the weekend papers they show the match as being on BT sport. It is bad enough the promoters/BSPA regularly don’t give a fig about the paying public but to have your main broadcaster jump on the bandwagon is taking the. P.... I guess this sums up the state of things, the punter really does not count at any level and you pays your money and it is a gamble what you get in return.
craigACE 91 Posted September 3, 2019 Way BT are going i am glad they will not be covering Speedway next year. Bad enough showing it every other week. But dropping it after listing it is pathetic. It had BT at the side of the fixture in the Star too. BT complete waste of time.

Well if it is Eurosport lets hope the coverage is better than what they have dished up in the past, starting the broadcasts at Ht17 etc, Sky were definitely the best, and BT would have been ok if they had covered more meetings. Just an opinion.
moxey63 1,785 Posted September 4, 2019 As somebody who watched the sport during its healthy times, and keeping track with what it has become, I'd be grateful for any coverage right now. Fans often lambasted SKY for its coverage, or because they didn't screen a certain match, or its commentators... When SKY decided to ditch us, the same supporters called them "rubbish" anyway, and BT was the best. But because BT air occasional live matches, they're the villains. Speedway 2019 should be thankful for the amount of live action that hits the screens. It is still laughable that hardcore supporters feel it deserves better.
HGould 2,213 Posted September 4, 2019 Tatum is far better than Pearson, Quirke is awful The bloke on Freesport is even worse. Get the guy who will be the Announcer at Cardiff, don't know his name or someone like Alex Raby - vast improvement on what they have now
Skidder1 7,632 Posted September 4, 2019 So are we saying that live speedway coverage in UK is in no way part of the reason for reduced speedway attendances?

Attendances have been dropping for the past 40 years, well before live Speedway was beamed regularly into UK homes. Other sports though in that time have grown their attendances (and brand), on the back of much increased live coverage of sport in the past 20 years in particular.. Domestic sports such as Rugby, (both codes), Cricket with its 20/20 coverage, BSB, and Darts in particular have all benefitted tremendously by live coverage.. Darts being the PDC variation rather than the BDO.. Which I think is very relevant.. Live coverage of the BDO is terrible. Often played out in front of a black curtain backdrop to hide the lack of a crowd. Whilst the PDC sells out 10000+ arenas.. One prospers and grows year on year, whilst one hands out leaflets for their 'majors' to local milk men and taxi drivers in the town where the event is held to hand out to anyone who accepts one.. Same sport, two different ways to have used the coverage they have been given.. Similar to Poland and British Speedways use of their coverage maybe? In short, if what you put out to the watching masses is poor, uninteresting, and devoid of relevance, played out in front of empty stands alluding to its worth, then it will severely damage your brand, resulting in an inevitable vicious circle of decline... That's then your fault for letting this happen, not TV's for showing it... Edited September 4, 2019 by mikebv
