IOW Warriors v Mildenhall Fen Tigers 8/8/19

Recommended Posts

The next meeting at Smallbrook Stadium this Thursday at 7pm sees the Fen Tigers from Mildenhall looking to improve on their nine point loss in the Trophy early in the season. Warriors will be fresh from their Silver Ski Four Team tournament win on Monday at Kent but will probably be without Danno Verge after his heat 14 crash with Adam Extance which saw both riders in need of attention and the meeting result called after 13 of the 16 heats had run.

My best wishes to both Danno and Adam on a speedy recovery. It looks as though this Thursday should be a close encounter with both sides needing to add to their league points tally.

For me personally, it will be my first meeting since Rye House closed and I wish to thank Barry Bishop for his encouragement which has raised my enthusiasm for the sport back to where it has been for over 60 years. The bad news for Barry is that this will be my first meeting as an over 65!

He has asked me to introduce myself so we can have a chat. His enthusiasm is infectious.

Tough one for the Warriors.

Mildenhall are undoubtedly made stronger by the inclusion of Stoneman for Brooks and RR for Edwards, with all others able to take a ride.

It seems a very convenient use of ‘unavailable’ for Brooks when they can use Stoneman. Brooks rides the night after down in Plymouth too.

Just read the Mildenhall press release. Very convenient that Brooks who was scored 1 gifted point from four rides for Oxford last week is now AWOL / unavailable and his replacement Nathan Stoneman is an Island specialist. I know it is a legal move but strikes me as fishy, especially as he can get to Plymouth the next night.

Also note that the press release says Mildenhall have ‘bought in’ Stoneman for the IOW meet. Unfortunate typo.

It’s R/R. Very unfortunate but 2 of his rides can be taken by Morley & Campos.

I will try to find the air horn that the Rye House promotion gave out at the last televised meeting at Hoddesdon.

Think Cleggs average far too high. Time for the Warriors to do a bit of creative accounting of there own to match that of the visiting team.

not sure what happened to Wood tonight?

won heat 1 despite nearly having his team mate off, then stone last in next 2 rides then cried off with back injury but never fell off?

strange

if he cries off tomorrow does he get another 7 day illness ban?

fishy!

Hardly.

While his absence at Belle Vue might be subject to question, he won't be the first rider to pull his back while racing. You don't need to fall off to get injured.

In addition, I can't see any reason why he might want to miss the Isle of Wight meeting, so this looks entirely genuine to me.

You're right, seen it quite a few times when a rider had to be helped off the bike having twisted and injured his back in a race, sure it's genuine.
