Heathcote 51 Posted March 26, 2003 Would love to see these 7 racing round Owlerton every week. Hans Nielsen - True Class Kenny Carter - Love and Hate really, Great rider but why couldn't Shawn beat him everytime. Jan O Pedersen - A great man whose talent deserved more success Lance King - Loved watching him ride, What did happen to him? Jim Airey - For anyone who used to follow Sheffield away to see Jim get 18 points and the rest struggle to get 10 between them Sean Wilson - The best captain in the world. 3 great years would not have happened if it wasn't for Sean Roman Matousek - Just for his 2 match race victories over Chris Louis and Jimmy Nilsen. 2 of the most memorable nights I've had watching Sheffield. Probably a bit biased with regards to Sheffield, but it's only a dream team.
Jez 4 Posted March 26, 2003 Yeah Shoddy 5 out of 7 isn't to bad to agree on. Had to be really biased though and make 'em all Bradford riders, so even though I thought riders like Shawn & Kelly Moran, Sam Ermolenko, Erik Gundersen were all top riders, not weraing the Dukes race jacket went against them
WATigerman 1 Posted April 10, 2003 Shawn Moran Peter Collins Bob Valentine Ole Olsen Sir Ivan (not a fan but he was probably the greatest) Bruce Penhall - who can forget Wembley '81 Hans Nielsen

norbold 7,053 Posted April 18, 2003 wow! when i grow up i want to be just like Norbold...ever thought of writng a book mate! Great idea Sean. But who'd publish a book on a minority sport like speedway? By the way, just as an afterthought on Aub Lawson. He had his best years in the World Championship from 1957 to 1959, coming 4th, 3rd and 4th. Not only was he over 40 by then but he was up against the likes of Fundin, Moore, Briggs and Craven in their prime not to mention Crutcher, MacKinlay, Nygren etc. His qualification for the World Final in 1960 was 21 years after he first qualified. It's like a rider being in the Grand Prix series this year who first qualified in 1982, when Bruce Penhall won. As you may have gathered, Aub is a bit of a hero of mine! Smeg Head 0 Posted April 21, 2003 My all time top 7 riders that i can remeber watching as a child to todays riders would have to be :- 1 Barry Briggs (Swindon and New Zealand ) 2 Ivan Mager ( Newcastle and New Zealand ) 3 Ole Olsen ( Coventry and Denmark ) 4 Simon Wigg ( Oxford and England ) 5 Phil Crump ( Swindon and Australia ) 6 Leigh adams ( *Swindon and Ausrtalia ) 7 Sean Wilson ( Sheffield and England ) * Leigh rode at Swindon till 1999 These are the 7 riders that i can say i`ve watched ride trackside as well as on tv. There are plenty of other riders that i wanted to put in to the line up such as Tony Rickardson, Billy Hamill, Mark Loram and many more, but i have never seen these guys race live, nor followed the team/teams they have rode for. 8)
