Black Sunday - 30 Years on

Awful day. I was at Rye House when they announced the news. It was amazing that he made such a good recovery, thanks to the skill of the surgeons and of course Erik's fighting spirit.

I was also at Rye that day. I was due to go to Bradford, but had trouble with the trains.

I think I saw Erik ride in his last competive meeting at Cowley during the second leg of the Gold Cup Final just days before that dreadful Sunday.

I live near there and was actually on the first/second bend terracing, I couldn't imagine a worse crash.
