Me matey, having heard 'rumors' from top people... we won't be too bad.. top 6 finish and a playoff place for us I reckon

Is bumping it up to top 6 for play off places a bit like prizes for taking part at school sports days? Surely teams should be build with a top four target at least if not to top the table. Scunny have a promoter in the inner circle  and can basically start team building early as they know the points limit and rulings that will be voted through and still only aim at making the number up.

You'll explode when I tell you about the 2019 Danish play-offs then.

6 teams in the league, and top 6 go thru to play-offs.

Which Fjelsted, 5th in the regular season, won!

Similar situation to last year when he had a team agreed/pencilled in only for the VOTE of the promoters at the AGM agreed to a lower points level & we had to change riders around.

I would, also, think most teams will have 5 or more riders sorted ready to be finalized shortly.

Dont see Tero Aarnio racing over here, at least not from the start of the season anyway.

Tero will ride for Scunthorpe once again... Unfortunately to me xD

Along with Tommy, Josh, Jake, Simon Lambert, Danny Ayres and Palin

Aarnio and Ayres, more of a personal note not a fan of howarth.. Kinsley was impressive this year, but wouldn't have him back with Jordan (had we not committed to Jordan, Ryan would have been my no 1 selection) and Stef I personally think has let us down a couple too many times this season

Stefan has not let the Scorpions down but has been beset with injuries(again) & confidence. He is always there at the post meetings in the clubhouse & is honest.

I truly believe he is a better rider than Simon, who performed well on his return, with it showing that the sport is a confidence thing, being in your head & on track. I do not think Simon will up his average but Stefan would improve his to around the 6 mark.

You just have to look at what Steve Worrall has done these last few years. Racing on the technical track at Newcastle, he averages 9.1. He then comes to Scunthorpe & unfortunately has a bad break to his leg & on the open & more fairer open spaces of the EWR, averages 8.2. He then goes back to Newcastle & lowers his average again to 7.6.

The second option makes a stronger team than the alleged one.

With a confirmed 41 point limit leaving 6.99 to play with I now cannot see beyond Aarnio ? Thing is he is a Scunny asset and a scorer home and away. I think Robs looking at "track specialists" to hopefully defend the EWR. Then looking for them to gel at least some of the time on their travels. Certainly Tommy and Tero have it in their locker to get big numbers. Bit will depend on fitness ? Tommy and Danny coming back from injury.

We need to get condistancy from Jake and better from Josh away from home for sure. Jordan Palin needs some support in his debut season and Simon Lambert gives that. I can see that Stefan Nielsen also offers that. But Lamberts heavy scoring from reserve v Nielsens battle against injury and inconsistancy from that edges it for Lambert.

All in all with a 41 point limit a team with Scunthorpe in its DNA on 40.85 should please "the homers" and gurantee more great action at the EWR in 2020. We might not win the league but we can certainly give it our best shot !

In order to defend the EWR, as you say, Rob is probably looking at "track specialists" & bringing back assets could make this possible. I would put Howarth in that bracket as at one time, he was near on unbeatable, but at times, when he guested, he was carrying an injury or suffering with lack of confidence. He was a go to guy that never or hardly ever, said no.

To me, now, the track HAS to be prepared to suit our riders. They need more track time pre season to sort & fine tune their set ups to the changes in track conditions. This is about changes made to the bikes after the 1st 4 or 5 heats as the track slickens off. Also, we could practice in the dry then wet the track as if we had just had a shower & the track conditions change, We need to prepare a track to make it slightly difficult for the away team.

Looking back to 2012 under the old scoring system(3 points for winning by 7 or more) suited more technical tracks & others with an advantage, we only dropped 2 pts at home with no draws or losses. Quite an achievement. Then in 2013, we dropped12. In 2014, finishing 5th, we dropped only 5. From 2015 we had the new scoring system & it was around this time that the track was re-laid. This became our downfall in results but entertainment was seen as the priority. In '15 & '16 from 12 meetings, we lost 5 dropping 15 pts. In 2017 we finished 9th of 10 having lost 10 dropping 30 pts. In 2018 & '19 we finished 9th & 7th of 11 having similar records dropping 11 pts.

Injuries play its part & we had a good team but suffered towards the end of 2012 but our choice of guests pulled us through.

To be in the top 4, it seems that you can drop only 6 points. Any more & you have to make up for that loss on your travels.

Just revisting my thoughts here ..got to say if Rob got the chance to sign Kyle Howarth would he ? I think he would ! A real EWR exponent ; giving us a great top four with Jake, Josh and Tommy. With Danny back and Jordan already declared thats 36.00 so 5.00 for the last place. Simon Lambert on 5.16 would push us over the 41.00 limit. Tough on SL who pressed his case at the end of last season with big numbers. However we do have a rider who fits !...Stefan Nielsen who just needs a bit more luck to stay clear of injury. He could defo nurse Jordan at reserve while being every bit as much capable as Lambert at putting in big scores from reserve.

Jake Allen, Josh Auty, Kyle Howarth, Tommy Jorgensen, Danny Ayres, Stefan Nielsen & Jordan Palin.

Thats a team of contenders !
