Eastbourne 2020

Busy couple of days for Eastbourne fans.

Floppy Norris is the ultimate Eagle, as voted for by us, the supporters. I was surprised at that.

Affiliates launched. What's that?

Simple concept - use the link on the Eastbourne website to visit the selected retailer and then make your purchase as usual.

The craic is that by using the link from Eastbourne site, the Eagles get some money,

Easy to do and helps us.

Merchandise is for 2020/21 -- great move in the current climate. Some nice stuff too.

Some retro lines for those inclined that way.

All we need now is speedway racing at Arlington. Keeping fingers well and truly crossed.

I voted for Floppy, may not have been the 'best' rider ever to ride for Eastie, but was the all time leading points scorer and I can't remember any rider who gave more to the club in every aspect including his humour. He rode on many occasions when he really shouldn't have, long term concussion and dreadful burns to his arm are 2 that come to mind , but never wanting to quit or let the club down, to the detriment to his own health. Don't see many of his like now, be nice to see him at the club when we eventually go back.

People often overlook that or dont' know. Good point that you make.

Have you sampled Barry Bishop’s new initiative called Virtual Skid?

If not, then this Thursday at 6 pm either via the VS Facebook page or via YouTube, the Isle of Wight Warriors take on the Eagles in a 15 heat meeting where the action is taken from the many meetings between the sides at the Smallbrook Stadium. Eagles have a strong record of good results on the Island so a virtual away win looks very likely.

The initiative got a good report in a recent Speedway Star, Barry explains the format at the outset so why not give it a go. The first couple of VS meetings have ended up with last heat deciders and the whole thing last just over an hour.

Have you seen the avatars Eastbourne have done for their riders.

Richard Lawson is a cracker.

They all brought a smile to my face and it is something a little bit different and fun where there isn't a huge amount to smile amount.

Nice work by someone in the Eagles eyrie.

Full marks to the TV team who produce  the coverage of Eastbourne home meetings being shown on you tube. Good multi camera production.

Who chooses which meetings are shown ?

The one sided meeting vs Scunthorpe was not great viewing.

Usually matches are close and they even show home defeats. Scunthorpe was this saturday’s pick to coincide with The Danny Ayres   Day. Chosen as mark of respect to a rider who provided superb entertainment everywhere including Arlington. Eastbourne made the link in their social media. Helped also to publicise the Day.

Eastbourne Speedway directors are watching and waiting when it comes to deciding what to do about the 2020 season, according to a statement issued this morning on the club website. It says, at this stage, nothing is ruled out and nothing is ruled in.

A good update on where we are and it all makes sense.

So many decisions are out of the hands of speedway clubs. We have to wait and see what the government decides about larger gatherings and what rules would be in place. Similarly, the ACU, SCB and BSPA will have a view.

Also good to be reminded that the Eagles are finding out how their fans feel via a survey.

It's no good opening your doors to speedway and find only 100 people turn up.

Tricky times for everyone in speedway and Eastbourne have some cool heads running the show -- and it shows by their actions.

Superb news this morning about the Eagles youngsters, all called up for European action next month.

Club assets Tom Brennan and Jason Edwards, along with Drew Kemp, on loan from Ipswich, are in the Euro u-19 qualifier on August 14.

Tom is in the Euro U21 qualifier on August 1.

This is brilliant for these youngsters and for the Eagles.

Eastbourne have gone down the route the last couple of years of backing the Brits. Shows what can be done.

Especially pleased for Tom, after last year's terrible injury.

I'm told he has had lots of laps already this year in practice sessions, has worked on his body strength, and is looking really strong.

Congratulation to Tom, Jason and Drew and to the Eagles management.

So pleased for these lads, sadly we've been denied the pleasure of watching them race so far this year.  I see Neil Vatcher is looking for sponsors to help with tyres etc wouldn't it be great if they managed to get all their tyres sponsored - start looking down the back of your sofas people as we've not been able to go out and spend much in the last few months you must have some spare mouldies knocking about somewhere :)  "every little helps"  as a well known supermarket keeps telling us.

Also shows why the NL was so good over the last 5 years and was so good to watch, with these 3 and many other youngsters pushing each other on week in week out.

I'd settle for some NL standard meetings this season, if the Championship can't run.
