Eastbourne 2020

You know things are bad if Eastbourne are struggling as they have a reputation (rightly) as a well-run club that pay their riders on time and a modern club that utilise social media etc well.

Having said that, the new promotion must be mad if they're running off an 800-900 break even mark.  Even the best-suppirted Championship clubs don't get much more than 1000 so that's a very risky tightrope to walk.

Hopefully the club will stagger through and rejoin an improved NDL next season,  which is very sustainable and plenty of fun.

Poole regularly get more than a 1000 every week when the stadium is fully open- and thats just in the main grandstand!!;)

Sadly once riders stop getting paid or paid on time the trust and bond between rider and club can break down very quickly. Its a good team established at Eastbourne this year but with public financial issues and internal grumblings signing riders next year could prove tricky (providing this season completes).

Relying on having a viable NDL to drop back into may be a thing of the past though as it was a sustainable alternative product to the higher leagues and as such seen as a threat and dismantled.

Fair play, yes Poole do but there won't be too many others I'd suggest.

Still far too much self interest in the Sport, that won’t change though .IMO

Can see breakaway League in years to come.

Accept that this year NDL has been a bit stop start however with Newcastle and Birmingham experiencing problems this year then a stronger NDL next season may be worth considering for Briitish Speedway.

But the almighty ruling powers don't want a stronger NDL because it rivals what they are serving up whereas the current weakened league can be run as a sideshow / aftershow proving how much "better" the higher leagues are. Its worked because for the past several seasons the NDL has been the best league in the UK, now the CL probably is......just a shame that its proving not to be sustainable in any way shape or form. It makes no difference how stable a few clubs run by the dictators are if there is no opposition there is no product.

The loss of a renowned team like Eastbourne has further reaching implications, the disillusioned fans aren't going to just up and relocate to Kent or Poole every week, many sadly will drift away despite being good away supporters. The impact will be felt by the clubs left behind who will slip closer towards the same fate.

Oh dear bad news here. Have the crowds at Eastbourne been that poor? They don’t have the same overheads as other clubs as they own the stadium and with it car park, food outlets etc.

So did Somerset and look what happened there!

Fact is as long as Bob Dugard (RIP) was around Eastbourne always had a future, now but that Bob has passed on the owners of the stadium will do what's best for the "owners of the stadium".

Middle of a highly populated area, not the middle of nowhere, so no comparison really.

I was answering the poster that said 'even the best supported Championship sides don't get more than 1000'!

Presumably Eastbourne do loads of promotional activity in their holiday town? (Eastbourne still is a holiday town isn't it? Although I know Bournemouth was the place people went to retire and Eastbourne the place people went to die!);):D:rolleyes:

Please read what I've said, I think Bob was pretty much top dog so with Bob no longer having a say things are just a little different!
