With all due respect, you don't know that and it comes across as your questioning Eastbourne's business model without knowing the facts and coming across  a little ITK..

Its quite clear that Eastbourne buiness model is not working .

The model of paying out more than you're bringing in never works in any walk of life

Age old story in British Speedway, couple of teams paying silly points money and others follow suit without sustainable revenue to match.
Hopefully Eastbourne can find a short term fix, but like Newcastle & Birmingham longer term prospects sound bleak!

maybe, just maybe, one day the penny will drop. Funny how Glasgow are the rich guys now when for years they clung to life. All tracks need each other and all will have their ups and downs, even Poole went ** up once. Needs to be pitched at the poorest track or the whole thing will collapse. A budget for each league should be set, which includes all wages and 'add ons' such as flights, vans, hotels etc...

With all sponsorship values and cost invoices lodged with the BSPL for scrutiny and transparency...

All wages then get paid via the BSPL, and any tracks found doing "something dodgy" via made up company sponsorship deals, or brown envelopes etc, then get kicked out..

Fans may even help police this as no fan would want their track to close trying to win a league that frankly has no kudos or financial benefit..

Super League has made a salary cap work with several "major clubs" being fined and docked points for contravening it..

It would obviously need complete compliance from all teams and have all working together for a common good..

And the budgets set should be clear so all clubs can decide what league they feel they can afford to compete in...

The standard of each league, therefore the riders within them, is then set by the natural affordability of it, rather than an ego trip for certain promoters, over inflating costs to that particular league, and thus destabilising the sport..

I partly agree with what you say BUT and there are a few of them...

Should there be a wage cap - Yes, but not too low. I've always been a believer that clubs should be able to sign who they want. If they can afford it without going **** up then why not. Poole are the prime example. It pulls the crowds in. If Man City or Chelsea are in town for an FA cup tie against your team who are in the lower rungs of the league system chances are you will go to that game. Your team may get stuffed but you'll go because you want to watch the best and who knows your team may even cause an upset. My late step-father once recalled his days of going to Coventry Speedway in the 50's. If you knew Split Waterman, Ronnie Moore, Freddie Williams, Jack Young and Ove Fundin were in town you would go to watch them. The stands would be packed and apparently they used to put extra buses on - how times have changed.

All wages paid via the BSPL - so like umbrella payments.  And who's pocket will most of that go in?

With such little respect for the BSPL, its secretive decision making and aversion to transparency, who would scrutinise the scrutineers. Giving wage responsibility to them is the equivalent of asking the Communist Party to manage the Bank of England.

The promoters went into this season blind, with no idea on what their crowd levels would be. It's a recipe for disaster, setting a budget for the unknown!

You must be joking.! Blind they have had white sticks for years. You cannot seriously think your crowds are going to double because of COVID.Knowing the BSPA they probably did.!!

Everyone's going on about high wages and over budget.

Eastbourne have a full British team. No flights in and out, no paying for riders accomm or bike storage!

I agree regarding Clubs signing who they want if they can afford, for the same reasons your said.
As an example Berwick had a decent crowd on Sat to some extent it was because Crump and Pedersen were in town.IMO.

Sadly, a very ominous statement :- (

The financial position of Eastbourne Eagles Limited. (Limited liability company of £100 according to Companies House)  is clearly more serious and deep rooted than that of Newcastle and Birmingham.  Not even a rallying call  for fans to get behind the team and show their support in numbers to keep the club running. Something VERY wrong down there with the BSPL clearly  not satisfied that Eastbourne Speedway Limited can service their existing debts prior to continuing the season ?

The business situation at Arlington seems fairly strightforward in 2021. Spedeworth are tenants for the Stocks and Banger cars, Eastbourne Eagles Ltd are tenants for the speedway. Ian Jordan (unknown business background)  and Les Fineing ( programme printer) are directors of the speedway company.  Trevor Gear and Lee Kilby are co promoters.  Owners of the stadium are Eric and Margaret Dugard (stated elsewhere on this thread) In the last filed accounts for season Dec 2018 - Dec2019 the speedway made a loss of £33k. That was I believe a full season in which Eagles were fairly succesful, although spoilt by Tom Brennan's injury. Company assets were valued at  (£28k) ie  minus £28k.

Surprising then that they lined up in 2021 with 2 teams (NDL and CL) after such financial results given the huge uncertainty over COVID and a delayed opening.
