Fours qualifiers

Sadly, this wouldn't happen.  How many Kent fans would travel to Somerset, or Scunthorpe fans to Birmingham, on a Wednesday night for such a meeting?

Even in the glory days of the 1980's, the southern tracks ran these meetings at a big loss.  Nowadays, with far fewer travelling fans -- even at weekends -- the costs, especially for the southern and midland sectors, would be absolutely prohibitive.

As sporting contests, such rounds would be entertaining, as business propositions (especially in the south and midlands) totally unviable.

Exactly right: No point on putting on meetings fans don't want to see. Travelling fans might number 100 or so for crucial league match, I suggest. For a 4s qualifier - the diehards in a couple of cars.

But it isn’t broke! The 4s as a one track one day event works.

Yes, and we know for southern tracks at least, qualifiers was well and truly broken

Our nearest away track is 81 miles to the South (Lions ) and next nearest is 108 miles to the North (Bears). So this season we Scorpions have no local derby and lots of travelling anyway.

So you have qualifiers, and four teams go through for a one off final on a neutral track ?  Would probably attract no more than a few hundred people.     The one event qualifiers and Final at least attract supporters from every track in the league and is generally a great day out with close on to thirty races.   I used to love the old system with four meetings in four days with the Northern clubs, but it will never return sadly as there are not now enough teams.

Interesting that some fans are calling for the return of the fours qualifiers on the basis that four meetings in four days would be an attraction, but the BSPA is being widely criticised for organising events either side of the British GP.

How many fans can actually afford to go to four meetings in four days? You really think the interest level would be there on the fourth (or even third) leg for supporters of a team well behind from the first couple of legs?

Can you imagine the logistical nightmare if one (or even more) of the legs is rained off? It's bad enough trying to get two teams to agree on a re-arranged date, never mind four.

Fours qualifiers are best left in the past, when every day was sunny, every meeting was close, every race had passing and life, in general, was just better. Except it wasn't always so.

Fours finals day can be a great occasion.

Still closer than any of the Rebels 'local' derbies were in 2019!

The Fours qualifying rounds have never existed in Somerset's time in the middle tier. I wouldn't might seeing it tried though. I went to a few at the County Ground and always enjoyed them (well apart from the one where Simmo disappeared over the 1st/2nd bend fence and almost left the stadium in the air!).
